Hi there. I have a Isuzu 3.2 V6 and is running only on 1 cylinder head 2,4 and 6 piston. the spark is there and the injectors is working and the fuel pump is replaced and the cambelt.

Hi, The question which i have is with regards to my 1998 Isuzu frontier 3.2 litre v6. All 6 pistons are firing, but the 3 on the driver's side seem to have no combustion. regards.

Does your V6 have 4 cams (DOHC) or just 2.
ok ever seen a spark timing light, and use it to check timing
on those cylinders, dead.? if timing is way off
the cam belt slipped.

this is your second post on same car.

using a test spark plug, is method 1.
using timing light is method 2 , tells if cam slipped.
but if true, the the timing is off.
if not true the coil pack is bad. (or you wired it wrong)
learn to use a timing light.
learn how to do that on any of the 6 cylinders.

Misfiring cylinder 3 on axiom 2004, replaced coil and plug, need info. On cleaning injectors.

how do you know that, (you never said)
P0303 DTC errors? that?
303 means.
#3 cylinders combustion energy is weak, to a tech it means the piston velocity was week, slow to accelerate, it was.
that can be.
1: spark bad (for gas/petrol engines)
2: injection bad.
3: this cylinder compression bad.

it is NOT just a spark issue, not at all.
it can even be air leaks (vacuum ) near #3 but that cause.
injection rates to seem wrong when ok. lean.

id be all over compression tests.
after all cant burn fuel with weak compression.
it may burn but 303 will keep going.
then spark, cant burn fuel with bad spark
and last is fueling. (air and fuel mix)
in that order, is how it happens in real world.
but we take short cuts, sure, and new spark plugs are prudent fast and only $2 each.

Spark to cylinder but appears to be dead new head does not run right

Was the same fault there before you changed the cylinder head? If so, that would point to piston problems on cylinder No4.

Are you able to do a compression test on the engine? If there's piston/ring trouble on the 4th cylinder that could cause a misfire because of poor compression.

The other thing that springs to mind is that there's something amiss with the valve clearances on cylinder No 4.

I'm not familiar with your car - does it have an overhead camshaft? Unfortunately when refitting an overhead camshaft after a rebuild, some owners have managed to bend a valve. This usually happens because the engine has been turned during disassembly/rebuild and the timing marks have not been aligned when refitting the camshaft.

This results in a valve in contact with a piston and when the camshaft is fitted and torqued down the valve becomes bent.

I think your problem may lie in either a bent valve or incorrect valve clearances.

Why is there a cylinder 2 misfire?

Check these three things in the misfiring cylinder: spark, gas, and compression. One of them is wrong or missing. For spark check the spark plug and wire. Make sure you have spark on the plug wire, a strong blue spark. For gas, the fuel/air mixture may be wrong. Does the fuel injector pulse, putting gas into the cylinder? Possibly you may have a leaking injector or a clogged injector.

If gas and spark seem okay, you need to check compression in the cylinder. Low compression will cause a misfire. If compression is 20 or 25% lower than adjacent cylinders, that could be causing a misfire. For example, say numbers 1 and 3 cylinders had about 150 psi compression. 80% of 150 = 120, so if cylinder 2 is 120psi or less, that could be setting the misfire code. Low compression can be caused by valves not seating well, or bad piston rings, bad head gasket- something in the combustion area of the cylinder is losing compression.

Drivers side has spark and fuel when using starter. But no fuel / spark when running on the passenger side cylinders? None of the drivers side cylinders fire!

are yous saying engine runs on 3 cylinders, (sure dead slow)?
great facts, so few post have actual facts or tests
but what engine, it's engine issues, which one?
must be v6, (left right bank)
but is it single or twin cam 24valves?
check all fuses first. (always)

lets see... one side has no spark, so did you scan he PCM while cranking for P03xx codes DTC errors. it will show them if you crank for 5 full seconds, and release the key , 90% of time.
and is a KEY fact in diagnosis, no need to fix cars like 1995 and older here. we use scan tools and win,.

left side has spark and fuel but is dead, so its flooding on that side.
right bank has no spark and no fuel.
you meant both sides dont fire. and engine does not run at all.
so what is wrong.
well I check spark first. is the timing good? if not the cam belt slipped. as all do , ignored.
5 min check and bam , OMG timings way off....
or check compression first. i do on all old cars.
for 2 reasons.
1:if compression is way off, the cam belt slipped.
2: if uneven , (done right) you go , gee, is this old car worth a rebuild? 13 years old, IMO , it is. but isuzu parts. hard to get?

do compression on #1 clylinder (or 3) first. if way off. bingo.
5 min work done WOT, wide open throttle.

knowing engine, tells the mech, what spark system is there and which of 2 fuel systems used.
does engine have 1 coil pack with 6 lugs, or 6 cop coil packs.

if compression is ok.
and one bank is dry.
that means the injectors are dead on one side.
and that means the PCM is seeing bad CMP sensor data.
some CMP can do that. but no engine stated.
SOme CMP sends camp pulses for all cylinders can can fail on one bank.
but if the cam belt slipped, some PCM go nuts with crazy CMP pulses.
let me explain if you were a PCM and the cam and crank signals.
are in contradiction, do you inject or not? (pretend that)
some do, some dont other guess wrong, or go goofy.

the spark and injections are all timed.
that is why I always check spark timing First.
a 5min job.
the new cars have no spark timing adjustments
and many think that is excuse to throw the tool away
nothing is so far from the truth...

Spark plug firing order

Hello Harvey, My information shows firing order of 123456. #1 being passenger's front cylinder and #2 being driver's front cylinder.

Cilinder 6 misfire have changed spark plugs and coil still misfiring

If you are sure it is cylinder 6 then the next steps you need to find out is if the cylinder has compression and fuel. A misfire can be from 3 things:
  1. No spark (correctly timed spark)
  2. No fuel (bad injector or pump, clogged injector or line)
  3. No compression (stuck open valve, bent valve, burned piston, bad rings)
Always check these 3 things and track backwards from there.

2001 mitsu galant V6, misfire in #1cylinder

check fuel injectors, fuel pressure regulator, air filter. cat converter, O2 sensor. failure of any of these wastes fuel. air/fuel ratio should be normal.
