There are a few things you can check for, 1. the idle air control valve for carbon and the same for the throttle plate having varnish or carbon build-up . Use spray carb. cleaner if any of these are black with carbon.2. A dirty mass air flow sensor will cause stalling and Idle problems . You can get cleaner just for mass air flow sensors ,don't use carb.clean ,or brake clean ! Or you could possibly have a vacuum leak ! check all vacuum hose , you can spray carb cleaner at intake gaskets to check for leaks , but be careful it is flammable !!!

SOURCE: rough idle then stalls

Vacume leak or bad idle motor. With the car in park and running with the hood open listen for leaks moving your hand around the different hoses looking for a change in the sounds that you hear. The idel motor also makes the car idel up to 1500 RPM or so right at start-up then idel down, If it doesn;t the idel motor is likly. Check engine light is on when running? Test for codes, Follow code test charts don't skip any steps!.

I have a Kia Sedona van 2002 . I stoped to fill it up with gas but i left it running after i filled it up full the van started acting funny and died. I started it back up ran alright then the rpms go up...

Could be a sensor , but without testing , this would be a guess ! Have seen TPS - throttle position sensors on chysler products do this , Mass air flow sensors on GM vehicles , plus bad IAC - idle air control motor . Don't think you would like to replace all these parts , your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop . Have it tested !

2001 chevy malibu idles anywhere from 1500-2500 rpm then sputters and dies while driving.

I'LL TRY, GOOD TO SEE SOMEONE TRY AT LEAST ! IDLE SEEMS HIGH, BACK TO BASICS !!!!!! THE AIR & FUEL FILTERS NEED REPLACED, SPARK PLUG WIRES, YOU FORGOT THEM !!! DISTRIBUTOR CAP & ROTOR, YOU FORGOT THEM !!! THESE ARE AS IMPORTANT AS THE AIR WE BREATHE !!!!! VACUUM LEAKS, CHECK ALL VACUMM LINES, THOROUGHLY ! THIS LINE COMING OUT OF THE TRANSAXLE PORTION OF THE INTAKE MANIFOLD ?????????????????/ YOUR NEED TO REPLACE WHATEVER IT IS, WHAT KIND OF LINE ? METAL, RUBBER , WIRE ??? MOVING ON, GOOD YOU REPLACED THE OXYGEN SENSOR, & IDLE AIR VALVE, & TPS, RECHECK TPS, IS IT LOOSE, ALSO TIGHTEN THROTTLEBODY BOLTS, THE ONES THAT HOLD IT DOWN. SO, CHANGE YOUR FILTERS,WIRES, ETC., MENTIONED ABOVE, CAP & ROTOR, ETC.,ETC.,.........GO FROM THERE, SEE HOW THAT WORKS

98 explorer stalls sometimes when coming to stop. and acts like cutting out while driving

check the voltage to the THROTTLE POSITIONING SENSOR
that is usually the problem if its not holding at 1.5 volts
any other range it will die out when idling and sluggish or hesitating upon driving

Stalling problem

Possible throttle position sensor(TPS).Does the idle even out if you bring the RPMs up to say 1000?All engines spend most of their time at idle, that area wears out in a TPS first.By barely increasing the engine speed you can get past that dead spot and drive your car normally.Of course that doesn't fix your situation but it helps you understand why it happens and how to continue to drive your car until you can replace it.Duralast / Throttle Position Sensor Part Number:
TPS140 is only $33 at your local auto parts store.Good Luck!

I had a diagnostic done on it and changed out the idle air control valve but it doent seem any different. and the check engine light is still throwing the same code. we adjusted the idle up so i could drive it with out it dying but it is still acting funny.
