What is the electronic (wire) connection on my MK2 Escort 1600 sport carburettor for

There is no choke fitted. There is a wire connected to one side of the carburettor. Will start eventually but takes so long when cold it is burning out solenoid

Sounds like your carb needs to have the jets adjusted. 2 ways around the problem: 1. Spray starter fluid in the top of the carb before starting. or 2. Pump the gas pedal about 8 times before trying to start.

The automatic choke was removed now new mechanic does not know where it should go, he said it does not fit with the type of carburettor we have. I think it was removed from the starter when replaced.

chokes mount to the carburetor-but you said they replaced with new the old may not be compatible with new and chokes are not part of starter unit --- and i would look into going to a different repair shop

Ran out of gas and now it wont start

fill the tank with fuel so that the needle shows fuel in tank
open the air filter top cover pour quarter of a teacup of fuel inside and try to start the car with the chokes pulled. if u do not have active choke then block the carburettor with the help of a friend and them try to start yhe car. once it starts it should take the fuel automatically.
if it works and stops again plz do the same process again. if it continues to stop then you have problem with the fuel pump and has to be replaced.some fuel pumps are mechanical that are fixed to the engine while the electronic one have two types. one ficed inside the fuel tank and the other inside the bonnet (engine compartment) connected electrically to the fuel pipe towards carburettor hardly more than 2 inches dimension with electrical wired.

use a test meter to locate the cars wiring thats the easy part and make sure the ground or earth connection has more than one connection ,use the towbat bolt fittings and the back light cluster earth ,Also make sure that the laws in your country allow you to fit it yourself as all europeon states now require this work to be carried out only by a certified garage with the vehicle presented to a inspection station with the certificate of conformity and homoglonation for the hitch and the certificate of fiting signed and stamped by a auto electrician and the garage that fitted it ,as you are not allowed to fit this sort of thing yourself then it has to be added to the vehicles paperwork at the inspection station where the vehicle has to have another yearly inspection as to weither the old one has expired or not .-you have been warned 2_29_2012_10_06_02_pm.jpg

Hi i have a 1999 escort van diesel the left side light keeps blowning fuses and i have no brake lights and the hand brake light stays on

Hi sounds like you have the usual escort van rear lamp nightmre start by removing the bulb holders in the rear lamps check where the wiring connecter conects to the lamp they should be clean and free of corrosion look for terminals that look black or have broken off the connecter this is so common there is a wiring repair kit available from ford to rectify this the other problem is with the bulb holders themselves should have two metal tags/contacts that pass power from the lamp to the bulbs these often corrode till theres nothing left replace them if they are like this also check you have got the right bulbs in the bulb holders they often get the wrong ones fitted causing all sorts of wierd back feeding problems to the electrical system the favourite is putting a two contact bulb in a single contact bulb holder this will cause nigthmares the other poular solution is to ditch the escort
rear lamps and fit ones from a trailer as they are made a lot better and give less trouble

I got a 1979 ford escort sport 1600. I just resparyed and started reassembling the classic, but some how i got the wireng messed up and the indecator lights does not want to work, please help. I did...

mk 2 escort ,nice car in its time i must have welded no end of sills on these cars for the old MOT ,did have a haynes book laying around but the mice ate it ,right these old cars always had problems with the bulb holders corroding ,so check these out first ,the wiring is simple enough though a feed runs to the 3 pin flasher unit and from their the feed goes to the stalk switch which then sends it down either side of the car so put the indcator on then check for a feed to the light and if you have a feed then the problem is the bulb holder ,so have a play and see what happens ,i used to build these engines on the assembly line in ford dagenham many moons ago .

start with engine and gearbox mounting.making shore is in straight line with diff head.tail shaft will also have to be shortened and altered with 2ltr gearbox universual.

Escort Mk2 1600 valve and torques settings what are they

cylinder bolt torque settings stage 1 15 ft pounds
stage 2 50 ft pounds
stage 3 85 ft pounds

valve clearences 0.15 - 0.20mm inlet
0.22 - 0.27mm exhaust
these are the figures i have been supplied with, you can also use

cylinder bolts stage 1 10 ft pounds
stage 2 50 ft pounds
stage 3 + 90deg.
with my exp, i would use the first guide as the degree method has a tendancy to snap head bolts, especially on older vehicles.

On a ford Escort there are only 2 fuse boxes, one is located on the driver side, under the instrument panel, and the other under the hood.

I had to fit second solenoid and took the positive feed from the carb. slow running solenoid. The single earth wire from the power steering pump was connected to the negative feed of the solenoid. The vacuum pipes were connected to the AC actuator in parallel
