SOURCE: Engine Knock on a 98 Isuzu Rodeo

Most likely it is a rod bearing and motor would have to be dissassembled to diagnose, you might want think about installing a low milege used replacment since it was run 5 quarts low on motor oil.

SOURCE: High oil pressure and knocking in the engine

There is a pressure relief valve in the oil pump, it is stuck closed, this happens now and then, seen it 2 times, since the oil pump is a positive displacement pump it can produce 100's of pounds of pressure, the reason for the noise is that u have allot OF pressure but very little volume, the bearings are being starved for lubrication, replace the oil pump, DO NOT DRIVE THE TRUCK, U WILL BURN OUT THE ROD AND CRANK BEARINGS.

SOURCE: Chrysler 300 3.5 v6 Slight engine knock - oil always changed

I have a 2006 with a 3.5 (41,000 miles). No oil consumption but had the knock. Started as a slight knock and continued to get louder. My buddy works at the dealer and hooked me up. Chrysler knows about this problem, it's the rocker arm assembly coming apart. They have a new revised part to fix the problem. THEY NEED TO RECAL THIS.

I have a 2002 grand marquis and it was running perfect until yesterday.... It's making a knocking sound when you crank up the car and it get louder when you press the gas... It quiets down at one point but...

Hi just food for thought, the nocking would normaly mean the big ends where worn, but as you have sied that the oil pressure is low it could well be that the oil-pump is worn or filter of oil pickup is blocked.
hope this was helpfull.

Test driving a 06 grand marquis, after about 30 miles it developed a soft knock low down in the engine. Any ideas

Could be anything, but it is usually not a good sign. If you haven't bought it yet, skip it. It may be time to rebuild the engine.

I have since put more oil in my car but a knock in the engine developed because I drove it while low on oil

pontiac cars are mainly junk (sorry but its true) especially grand am. Sounds like you threw a rod or bearing, but don't feel bad it would've happened whether or not you ran it low on oil, you just sped up the process :)

My 94 grand marquis shut off seconds after a loud grinding noise that sounded like it was coming from the front left hand side. I tried turning it back on after it happened and the check engine and oil...

grinding sound is not good, there is a knock sensor on the engine if this registers a bad knock it will turn off ecu to stop more damage. has the engine been stud for a long time. when was the oil last changed. is there any thing obstructing the engine, is the engine burning oil or water is there a white film on the oil filler cap. please check these out

2010 HHR runs rough after oil change, no power will not shift into next gearr and dies

Take your car to a real shop, not one with pretend mechanics, and have it evaluated by a qualified mechanic for engine damage. It sounds like they either forgot to put oil in, or didn't tighten the drain plug or filter and you lost most of your oil. If damage is found, and the qualified mechanic states that the damage could be due to oil starvation, file a claim with Meineke. Be prepared for a runaround (hundreds of YouTube videos on these ripoff shops - Meineke, Jiffy Lube, etc).

Engine Knocking / No Power

Dosent sound good. Oil light on means you lost oil pressure. and the knocking sound is the damage done due to low pressure. Start looking for another engine or another van.

2003 Taurus. Oil light came on. Checked level. Good. Drove another 5 miles, now have engine knock on top side of motor. Thought maybe oil pump malfunction. In the middle of nowhere, drove 50 miles home....

Before driving it anymore I would have someone test the actual oil pressure using a mechanical test gauge to see how much , or little, oil pressure you actually have. The knocking noise could be a hydraulic lifter that is partially collapsed due to low oil pressure or a rod bearing that has been damaged from low oil pressure. If it is just a lifter that is making noise then there's a pretty good chance that the lifter will quiet back down once the oil pressure is normal again. If it turns out that your oil pressure is normal both at an idle and at highway speeds then the noise may be unrelated. You can cause some serious damage by continuing to operate any engine that is low on oil pressure even if the dipstick shows it to be full of oil. Hope this helps and good luck!

Knocking sound as soon as the engine is cranked

SOUND LIKE PISTON RODS.LOW OIL LEVEL OR FAULTY OIL PUMP.DUE TO LACK OF OIL TO ROD BEARING CAUSING BEARINGS FAILURE.YOU WILL GET ROD KNOCK MEANING ENGINE DAMAGE.

I have a 2002 grand marquis,140 thousand miles...i change my oil on the regular,i take good care of the car..my problem is on my last oil change i noticed a slight tapping noise like the valves where...

a knock sensor is basically a resistor and a spring, and what it does is it reduces valve ping. Valve ping is when the fuel is not properly burned and tries to explode before the valve is fully closed and it will make a pinging noise when under load or at higher RPM. If the sensor is bad it can cause detonation, detonation is when the fuel explodes before the valve is closed and can cause a cracked, or exploded piston, bent valves etc. Your problem does not sound like that of a bad knock sensor, predominantly you will only hear the "ping" under load and not at idle and if it was bad your check engine light should be on. this sounds more like a rod knock. change the oil again and use only AMSOIL and an amsoil filter, amsoil is proven to last longer than any other oil, 600,000 miles without a change, or a filter change.
