Please have this properly diagnosed before your engine is destroyed. It cannot survive long without oil pressure. If it has already sustained damage, low oil pressure is a symptom of a larger cause, like a bad main bearing or a rod bearing. In this case, running the engine will kill it and you'll be buying a new engine.

Then again, it might only be a bad sensor or a clogged oil passage. Not worth the risk unless you really know what you're doing.

How many miles? Have you checked the oil level? Are you using the proper grade/viscosity oil? Name brand filter?

What happened was a friend of mine got ethanol gas at the pump and put like 30.00 in for me. It stopped running oilb pressure dropped so its been parked. I have drained the gas tank, changed the oil 3 times, changed out the spark plugs, and put new gas in it with mixture of Lucas.

SOURCE: 2004 GMC Sierra High Oil Pressure

if it is electrical oil pressure sensor I would start there. The best way to see if you have a major problem is to use a mechanical oil pressure tester. Take off the oil pressure sensor and put the mechanical tester on. The tester should come with a Gage. If it comes within your trucks oil pressure range than all is fine and replace the sending unit and see if that don't help your problem. If the tester runs high then the oil pump is bad or your cam-bearings could be the problem. But with cam-bearings you would usually get a low reading.

SOURCE: changed oil pressure switch, still no oil pressure

The fuel pump on that model runs through the oil pressure switch so that if the truck looses oil pressure,It kills power to the fuel pump to prevent engine damage.you need to find the cause of the low oil pressure reading(possibly a bad oil switch). That would be the cheapest place to start,or have it checked with a mechanical gauge.Good luck,

SOURCE: low oil pressure 93 GMC P/U w/350 motor w/205,000 miles gauge

While engine is running, open the cover where you add oil to engine and see if you see a good flow of oil, if good flow, could be as easy as replacing oil sending sensor. got to realize that if poor maintenance history your engine may not be building enough pressure at iddle to move your hydraulic operated valves, only when you rev it up it will pump enough to run smooth. if running engine too long, you may cause more damage to other engine components such as crankshaft and cam shaft bearings. if you can spare a few bucks, have a good mechanic check your oil pressure with a mechanical gauge. another cheap option is to replace oil pump. last resort if you love your truck as much as we do,replace engine or rebuild it. At 205,000 this is a normal symptom, other than timing chain problems, most engines don't make it that far. hope this helps!

SOURCE: oilpressure gauge indicates low to almost no oil pressure

You may want to hook up an external oil pressure gauge
to the engine to ease your mind. This would give you a regular number of the pressure. Compare it to the factory gauge in the dash. Those in dash gauges were not all that precise. If the engine is not having bearing noise I can see nothing to worry about.

2002 4.8l gmc yukon oil pressure problem

My suggestion would be to check it with a mechanical gauge.
You would need to use a Tee fitting to use the sensor to have fuel pressure.
If the mechanical gauge shows steady pressure at idle, it could be a problem in the wiring or the instrument cluster.

I have a 2003 gmc sierra 5.3 liter vortec why does my truck leak oil only under pressure

because your oil pressure rises to around 40psi when running and will leak at the weakest place, check your oil sending unit first and seals.

1995 GMC YUKON I HAVE CHANGE THE OIL SENDING UNIT THE OIL GAUGE IS STILL DROPPING TO 20 PSI WHEN EITHER AT A STOP OR IDLING I HOPING THAT THE OIL PUMP NOT GOING I CANT AFFORD TO REBUILD A MOTOR THIS TIME...

you will need to put a pressure gauge right on the engine to see whats real. Do an oil service with filter. This could help, If the pressure is stll low you could put a oil pump in and hope for the best. As long as you have pressure you should be ok. 20psi at idle can be a sign of old oil so cross your fingers.
