If the exhaust pipes are getting red hot I would suspect that eh exhaust header is drafting in air from bad gaskets missing bolts. I would start by making sure the system is sealed. Next I would check o2 sensors and Cat/s
Hi, the O2 sensors are located on your exhaust mid-pipe all the way forward near where it attaches to your headers. If you have a factory catalytic h-pipe, they are located forward of the two forward-most cats. I have a Magnaflow catalytic x-pipe on my daily driver, so I only have two cats and the O2 sensors are super easy to get to.
if i knew what a header was in english and what a plymouth duster was i would help no qualms their honest ,is this vehicle a industrial vehicle ?? If you give me some information i can advise even if its a vehicle i have never seen in my long life before .got a engine i will fix it
All vehicles have some sort of break in the exhaust pipes, thus creating the need for either a flange, or donut type of gasket to join the connections together. The most common place of use for the gasket, is below the exhaust manifold/header, and the Y pipe that connects the manifolds together.
Could be a crack in your head gasket. This could cause one or more of your pistons to stop firing making it not as hot as the other tail pipe. check for fluids coming out of your engine block. Hope this helps
if the exhaust is just cracked i wouldnt worrie about the engine because you still have a lot of backpressure and it should not burn a valve. but replacing the header is a good idea if the header itself is cracked. and to tell you the truth your mechanic should be responsible for the cost of the repair since he broke it in the first place. In the shop i own if one of my mechanics breaks something it comes out of my pocket to replace. its all part of the job sometimes things just happen and you have to take the responsibility for it
Not necessarily.Your spark plugs are located in the top of the motor so the exhaust heat from the leak could not effect them..So no the leak will not cause miss.Something you can check is by looking in the plug wire holes down at the spark plugs and see if theres any moisture in the holes an oil leak in the holes.This is usually the number one thing that makes these cars miss other than just needs a tune up.It is the 5.4L or 4.6L right.If not an it is a 302 or 5.0L it is very possible that the header gasket is the problem.And remember if you fix the gasket you'll need to replace the plug wire that the leaky header gasket was blowing on....
If you have strong valve springs they shouldnt be floating... What kind of mufflers? They could be adding backpressure, Id go with a straight through mufler.
