Would a fill pump and fuel filter really cause a car to not stop I have a 1996 Ford Taurus and I've replaced the alternator I replaced the starter I replace the battery I replace the fuses and the car still wont turn over it was running fine and then one day it just died on me on my way home from work I was advised to check the fuel pump and feel filter would it be better to replace them both at the same time or could I survive just doing one or the other

Why not actually test the car too find a problem

That is how it is done

Never need any parts until you have a reason to
install them

Because my mechanic has done tested everything and still my car won't turn over or anything. We checked the alternator fuses battery starter every thing and got a 2nd mechanic to look he thinks I should replace the gas filter

Thats a good point though Because my mechanic has done tested everything and still my car won't turn over or anything. We checked the alternator fuses battery starter every thing and got a 2nd mechanic to look he thinks I should replace the gas filter

It was a good point You went to two mechanics that can not even do the required testing to even find a problem

I would not replace anything Keep testing until you find a problem anything fix that & continue on

I ll just try myself to figure it out. I'm only listening to supposedly license mechanics that are showing no results.

SOURCE: 1999 ford escort zx2 alternator works brand new battery but battery isnt charging !

Stecorbett:

May I suggest that you drive your car to one of the major auto stores and they can and will check your alternator for you to make sure it is good/bad.These places like AutoZone do this all the time. They do not charge for the check out. (Of course they are hoping that if you need a part you will buy it from them.

One other suggestion. If you do need a new alternator, get a rebuilt one. It is cheaper and most always comes with a warranty.

Hope this helps Good luck Loringh PS please take a moment to give me a rating

If I have a 1996 ford taurus gl; that stopped working all of a sudden. And I have tried changing the battery, alternator, starter, and fuses. When the car stopped running there was gas that was a month...

check to make sure the fuel pump is working and at the proper pressure which is 35lbs pressure. have you checked this and checked for spark and timing, a bad timing chain. how long has it been since you last changed the fuel filter it could be plugged. you don`t say why you tried a battery, starter, fuses, alternator. how much gas was in the tank and is your gas gage accurate. you may have to add some gas. just some places to start.

The evaporative system failed on emissions for my 87 Ford Ranger 2.9l engine, any suggestions what might be wrong

It can't be filled up because it leaks, or won't take anymore gas? Check the hose from the fuel filler to the tank for kinks or restrictions, if you have leaks, fill it up and trace the leak. Either problem will cause EVAP codes, hard starts, and cause vehicle to die.

1998 ford taurus will not start without using starter fluid

I would check fuel pressure before and after you crank the engine.
The pump gets power for 3 seconds during startup - if the fuel pressure has leaked down you would have to crank the engine until the oil pressure came up to get the pump to power up again.

I have a 97 ford taurus and I have replaced every possible sensor that you can think of as well as the alternator and the cam position sensor and the snythanizor, crank sensor, fuel pump and filter,...

'hard to crank', meaning it is hard to start, or it cranks slowly? If it cranks slowly, your starter is probably going south-if you mean it is still hard to get it started, it sounds like you did all the repairs on the ignition side but have not addressed the fuel side-check the fuel pump pressure at the rail on top of the engine, replace the fuel filter. If it is just hard to start when it is warm, you could have a leaking injector (s), or the fuel pump is losing pressure as it gets hot, or your fuel regulator is defective (you could tell this by doing a fuel pressure test).

Stalls when coming to a stop

Mine stalled when I stopped and it was the Idle Speed Motor. If it only stalls when you stop, I would check that before messing with the fuel filter or pump.

I filled the coolant reservoir with water & now my 1996 ford taurus wont start. Is water bad? What do I do?

water shouldn't have caused this unless motor was really hot and you poured ice water in it, I think there is another issue

Fuel pump

Can you here the fuel pump kick on? If not you will have to replace it. If the car has alot of miles and fuel filter was never changed then the fuel pump will work harder and wear out. Pump located in tank.
