Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I have a 1998 Chevy prizm. Recently I had to get a switch put in for my heat. the switch is connected to my battery so I have to turn it off when I get out the car. I went in the store for about 10 minutes and left the switch on. When I came outside my car was completely dead no lights came on and the car did nothing when I went to start it. This morning all the lights came on and it started fiNE but when I got home and tried start it again it was dead again. Any suggestions on the problem?

The battery cables may need to be cleaned at both ends.

Check your battery cables for tightness, especially your ground cable. Now you have a new battery, so you have eliminated that as the source of the problem. Turn on your headlights, do they go out or very dim when attempting to start the car? If so, you have a poor electrical connection somewhere - loose cable, bad cable, possibly bad ignition switch.

police models have a connection for the speakers (passenger floorboard under floor mat) to connect the speakers to the police radios.
If they had the speakers connected to their radios, they may have unhooked them and not connected them back to the radio.
The wires are brown, grey, blue and light blue. All into a blue connector.

My 1998 chevy prizm has a squealing noise from the serpentine belt area.

Hello ed.... The serpentine belt or one of the pulleys that it turns is making that annoying sound. Carefully inspect the belt using a flashlight to illuminate any rips or tears, and inspect each of the pulleys looking for grease or heat marks.

Often, the belt has to be replaced and when that is being done, each pulley can be closely examined for wear and tear, even being frozen up. Joe

1998 chevy prizm when headlight switch s on head lamps dont work and if turnsignal is turned on car . stalls turnsignal flashes rapidly also but if just park lights are on car still runs and flasher is...

Seems like a huge issue huh?! First have the battery checked 2. check all connections for corrosion around battery area. I'm assuming this just started? 3. if all other things check out good, have the charging system tested for no less than 13.5 volts with all accesories on. Replace the alternator as necessary. Let me know what you find and I'll be happy to continue to advise.

No pwer to accessories after new battery installed

there could be a couple of things going on here. that you have no power to accessories suggests that you have a bad ignition switch. some of the contacts in the switch are letting power through or you would not have starter turning over, but some other things are not getting power or you would have power to accessories. you might see if you have brake lights or hazard lights before you turn the key, those circuits should be hot all the time. after you turn the key to run, not start, things like headlights and turn signals should work. normally if you have starter turning over but no start you would look for fuel and spark but sounds like you have other issues that need to be addressed first. hope that helps

Iginition switch on 1998 chevy prizm

the plastic covers (on the column) come off with just 4 screw in most cases, they are inside holes in the bottom part of the cover, once u get these off u will have to replace the ighnition lock cylinder, a pin inside that cylinder has broken, this is what is keeping it from turning.
