Question about 2011 Mitsubishi Pajero 3.2

1 Answer

Further to my 2011 Pajero losing power - after losing power and limping along at between 40 to 60 this was with my foot flat to the floor I stopped turned the engine off then restarted but no joy a fe

It has been back to a dealer twice and still keeps letting us down. It is back with them again but I am really concerned as it is too dangerous and could cause a serious accident if it happened to go into limp mode in front of a truck etc. We also tow a large caravan with it.

right a diesel ,i have to ask as a lot of questions on here are american and they wouldnt be seen dead in a diesel,Now a big problem i get on a lot of modern diesels which do this and go into limp but do not show any faults especially renaults is the throttle pedal control ,its all fly by wire now no cables so a lot of this work is beyond me as iam a old dinasaur and remember motors like foden ,guy leyland with everything manual .But for some reason these throttle control units just give out the wrong signals and this sort of problem arises ,driving along and then go to acelerate and bobs definatly not your uncle .Try to read this fault on the OBDII is difficult as turn engine off and restart and its perfect ,i sussed it by driving the vehicle with the laptop connected to the vehicle and recording all the readings and when it happened the throttle pedal voltage just wouldnt rise above a certain voltage .Now i am not saying you have this problem but it is a bit of food for thought so to speak

The Transmission computer is the Achillies heel of many Mitsubishi vehicles , it sounds like your Pajero is in " limp home " mode which gives you third gear only.
See if you can borrow a replacement computer to try.
Mitsubishi scrimped on the quality of the capacitors in their computers and their failure rate is very high.
Happy hunting Marshall

the car is suffering from "limp mode" basically the turbo is either underboosting or overboosting causing the ecu to shut it off, there's a couple ways to fix this, what i did to solve it in mine was replace the n75 valve ( pressure converter) and clean out the intake maifold, replace vaccum lines, but this is not a guarantee fix, best best take the car to a shop and have the check for trouble codes, because limp mode can be a sign of the turbo about to go
