This is a little out of my area without in depth questions.

ASSUMING that you have an automatic...
The least expensive thing you can do is to check your fluid level first then add one quart of Lucas transmission additive and let it idle for 20-30 minutes before trying to put in gear. If you feel it going into gear then its possible that the valve body was lacquered up and stuck.

NOTE: After driving three to five hundred miles and all is well drain/remove two quarts of fluid and add one more quart of Lucas or what and whatever trans fluid is needed to level. You do not want long term driving overfilled.

I am not associated with Lucas other than love their products.

If no work, sorry to say, get a mechanic or tow truck.

Good Luck!

I was driving my 99 Grand Cherokee limited in 4Lo then it just popped out of 4Lo into neutral and will not re engage! When i put it into 4Lo it just revs and grinds when i step on the gas and truck wont...

Try putting the truck into reverse before going into neutral, then put it into 4-lo. Sounds like the transfer case linkage might need to be adjusted, nothing major. I've owned NUMEROUS Jeeps, and every one with an auto tranny was a PITA to get into 4-lo. And if it isn't engaged completely, it will pop out every time.

Can a 1998 4x4 S-10 blazer be dinghy towed?

Yes it can, just place your Transfer Case in Neutral position.
Shifting into NEUTRAL
To shift the transfer case to NEUTRAL do the following:

Make sure the vehicle is parked so that it will not roll.
Set the parking brake.
Start the vehicle or turn the ignition to RUN.
Connect the vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Put the transmission in NEUTRAL (N).
Shift the transfer case to 2HI.
Simultaneously press and hold the 2HI and 4LO buttons for 10 seconds. The red NEUTRAL light will come on when the transfer case shift to NEUTRAL is complete.
Shift the transmission to REVERSE (R) for one second, then shift the transmission to DRIVE (D) for one second, or FIRST (1) for vehicles equipped with a manual transmission.
Turn the ignition to LOCK.
Place the transmission shift lever in PARK (P), or FIRST (1) for vehicles with a manual transmission.
Release the parking brake prior to towing.

Shifting Out of NEUTRAL
To shift out of NEUTRAL:

Set the parking brake and apply the regular brake pedal.
Shift the transmission to NEUTRAL (N) and turn the ignition to RUN with the engine off.
Press the button for the desired transfer case shift position (2HI, 4HI, AUTO 4WD or 4LO).
After the transfer case has shifted out of NEUTRAL the red light will go out.
Release the parking brake.
You may start the engine and shift the transmission to the desired position.
Excessively shifting the transfer case into or out of the different modes may cause the transfer case to enter the shift protection mode. This will protect the transfer case from possible damage and will only allow the transfer case to respond to one shift per 10 seconds. The transfer case may stay in this mode for up to three minutes.

NEUTRAL: Shift the vehicle's transfer case to NEUTRAL only when towing your vehicle.
Good luck and hope this answers your question.

Driving down the Interstate last week, just fine, suddenly it's like someone put the car in neutral. coasted to a stop, when i put in Park, there was a fine grinding, BUT car still wanted to roll down hill...

i would say the fine grinding was when you put it in park the output shaft was turning and the parking paw was trying to engage into park then the paw engaged into park but you say it rolled i am thinking that your problem is in the transfercase

LAST WEDNESDAY WHILE OUT ON THE BACK ROADS, I DECIDED IT WOULD BE A GOOD TIME TO RUN THRU MY 4 WHEEL DRIVE (ELECTRONIC 2H, 4H, 4L, & ALL WHEEL), ALL OF THE SHIFTS WENT FINE, AND I THEN DROVE HOME. IN...

sounds like you have a combonation trans and transfer case issues. if you were running youre truck in four wheel on a hard dry surface, witch is not recomended , the trans probibly ran hot. as for the transfer case, it could be a combination of problems. dash switch/ actuator/vacum switch/ vacum canister witch is under the battery tray. all have to work in unison. service the trans first. if the truck has high miles, add trans conditoner, if you do not, it will slip. then the transfer case. refer to youre owners man for oil specs. youre problems are not uneque as these trucks are notorius for unreiable four wheel actiuation. hope i was some help.

93 Jeep Grand Cherokee only revs when put in gear.

Three ways to check:
first: check if the shift cable is in position, cick down cable too..
-next: check if the torque converter is connected to the engine.
- remove the oil pan from the auto trans and check if the oil filter is in place. If you look to the right front side of the tranny, you see a lid with a coil spring in it. check if the spring is ok.
- if tranny is open, check for metal pieces or clutch material in the oil pan and the filter unit. If you find more than usual, replace the transmission.

Grinding in and out of 4 wheel drive

You say 'new' truck, 09? or new used? I have had 3 Fords, 3 w/ manual trans. case, if you go into 4x4 Low range, you must come to a complete stop before shifting the trans. case to 4x4 mode, and I always put trans (automatic) in neutral before slipping into 4x4, it engages smoothly, no grinding. 4x4 high range can be put in while moving, but I would let off the gas pedal, shift to 4x4 high range, then resume accelerating. If there is any grinding going on doing it as above, something isn't right. Check the trans. case fluid level also, to make sure that's not an issue.

I have a jeep wrangler and to have it towed you are suppose to put the transverecase in neutral after you first depress brake pedal put trans in neutral then start engine shift auto trans into drive release brake pedal make sure there is no movement, shut engine off with key left in acc position shift auto trans into park, disconnect neg battery cable (damage can result in trans if shifted into park while transvere case is in neutral with engine running) you should refere to your owners manuel

How to shift into 4wd

Ford has 2 types of 4x4 system engagement. One is a knob on the dash that you just turn to 4wheel drive high or low. The other system is the 4x4 transfer case shift on the transmission tunnel (hump) between the driver and passenger seats. To shift into 4 wheel drive high while driving, just let off the gas and shift transfer case into 4H position, and continue driving. To shift into 4 wheel drive Low, stop the vehicle completely, put transmission in neutral, shift transfer case into 4Low position, put trans. in gear, and start driving. I am assuming before doing the above, you have locked in ( turned the front hubs to 4 wheel drive position.) Any further questions, let me know.
