There is probably a scanner which can diagnose this. It would be more elaborate than the 100-200 dollar units.

There is a sensor which prevents the transmission from shifting into final drive until the engine warms up. Could be the wrench light is telling you that it is missing this signal or the signal values do not match specs.

You should have some guarantee for the money you paid. The dealer should offer to tow your car in. Discuss if they installed a bad part or made a bad guess. If anything they should not charge you for a bad guess. Let the dealer try to resolve this and if you don't get satisfaction ask for an appointment with the factory representative. Sometimes a fresh eye from another mechanic will help.

My 2008 Mercury Mariner does not shift gears well and the orange wrench light is on.

Your transmission needs to be diagnosed, either the TCM ( transmission control module ) is defective or the transmission has mechanical problems.

I just had my transmission rebuilt because coolant contaminated it. now i'm getting a wrench warning light every time i reach about 55 or 60 mph. when that happens, the overdrive button doesn't switch on...

Sounds like a bad O2 sensor, bank1 sensor1 would be the right side of the motor when sitting in the drivers seat, between the cat and the motor. This is common when disconnecting and reconnecting the exhaust using air tools, due to the vibration. Replace the sensor and you should be ok. Be sure to use a torque wrench so you do not overtightened the new part, so you do not damage it.

I have a 2008 Mercury Mariner and my wrench light came on. My engine is also having problems shifting gears (the rpm's go really high before it will shift gears) Any idea what is causing this? I...

The Wrench light is a Throttle/Powertrain light, if its shifting weird this may be a problem. It could be a few things. I would take it to a repair shop that deals in hybrid parts, maybe even a dealer. Here is a link that goes in-depth of the Wrench light. As the article says it could be anything from a $12 part to a $1,000 hybrid part. Some are getting this light do to overheating of the Hybrid batteries, hope this helps,

I just bought a 2008 Mercury Mariner. The anti skid and ABS lights started to go on and off at times. It doesn't appear to affect my driving, but.... From my research it sounds like a sensor problem....

Yes, usually a sensor, usually rear.

Out of warranty?

Buy part at at discount. Or ebay. Escape will fit too. Probably 2008-11

Wrench light is coming on and display reads ODO Error, no power in Drive, can only go in Reverse

My 2008 Ford Edge had the same error with the same issue - no power in drive, will only go in reverse. My Ford Dealer is replacing a speed sensor and a turbine sensor. They also recommended a transmission flush and re-programming. Total estimate is 4-5 hours plus parts - about $1,000.

The wrench light is on on my 2008 ford focus what does this mean?

I assume you have no owners manual or never read it.

The wrench is a MIL Lamp--- a Malfunction Indicator Lamp
It tells you that something like a sensor or other issues,is out of range,as far as the PCM (Computer) sees it. When ever you get a check light, mil light, trac, abs ,etc, you go to a repair shop fairly soon, like a couple of days or so, and have the issues checked out. This will happen a couple times a year ,on most of todays vehicles,so get used to it,and expect to pay a diagnostic fee, plus repair
