Question about 2002 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

2 Answers

I have a Montero Sport 2002 Es . Automatic 3.0L When I bought this truck it had about 107000 miles on it. Before then it was sitting from about 6 months because the roll pin inside of the harmonic balancer broke. Once I bought it I had it towed to my house and put the pin on. After then I rode about 7,500 miles until the fuel pump with out . I replace the fuel pump and fuel filter. It rode like a champ after about 1000 more miles . Then the next morning when I went to start my truck it acted as the battery was dead and my truck didn't want to start, I charged the battery and turned my truck on. I revved the engine 3 times . The needle went to the 3 on the rpm and just died like if there wasn't enough gas . My truck would turn on good but it just doesn't wanna stay on. I had it scanned and it told me the cats were clogged and the crank position sensor was bad. I've changed the crank and the camshaft sensor and my truck still didn't stay on. After replacing those parts I decided to replace the Mass Flow Air Sensor bc everyone said that was the part why my truck didn't wanna stay on. Yet again my truck didn't even wanna stay on. THE ONLY WAY MY TRUCK WOULD STAY ON IS IF I KEEP FLIPPING THE IGNITION SWITCH ON AND OFF AND REVVING MY TRUCK. Then again when I did tht I looked under my truck and where my front cats are was a red hot burning color. I waited till they cooled down and took them off and unclogged all them. While I had the exhaust off I turned on my truck and it still didn't want to stay on. PLEASE HELP ME AND MY MECHANIC WE ARE OUT OF OPTIONS AND THE ONLY CHOICES I HAVE IS REPLACE THE COMPUTER OR THE IGNITION SWITCH. Ps. When I go to turn on the truck there a short clicking noise on the passenger side of the truck.

I AGREE WITH THE OTHER ANSWER .THROWING PARTS AT IT IS A BAD AND EXPENSIVE ANSWER. THE CAUSE OF THE CATS TURNING RED IS TOO MUCH FUEL OVERLOADING THEM. I SUGGEST YOU DO A COMPUTER SCAN AND SEE WHAT CODES YOU HAVE. YOU MAY HAVE MULTIPLE CODES SO START WITH THE FIRST CODES FIRST. I THINK THE CODES WILL RELATE TO FUEL AND AIR MANAGEMENT SYSTEM. IF SO REPAIR THEM FIRST THEM CLEAR THE REMAINING. START ENGINE AND SEE HOW IT RUNS, THEN RECHECK TO SEE IF ANY OTHER CODES SET. GOOD LUCK

Okay I must not explained myself right.

Saturday morning I went to crank my car on and the battery was dead. So I got a jump from my moms bf and the battery was super dead. I went and bought a new battery. After that my car would crank right up but would stay on. After serval times of trying I went to autozone and rented the computer. I forgot wat the code was but it read CrankShaft Position Sensor. Also clogged cats . I think it read a o.2 but I cleared all the codes and the only one that stayed was the crank shaft position sensor. I went and bought the crankshaft sensor and put it on. I tried turnin my car on but it would stay on. I took of all 3 Catiylac converter of and clear them. I tried turning my car on while they were off to see if they were the problem but my truck wouldn't stay on.

How much transmission fluid do i put in my mitsubishi montero sport 2002 3.0l v6 wheres the best place to buy the fluid?

You need 9.8 quarts of Dexron III or later, for a dry fill. A wet service fill will be less, about 6-7 quarts. Autozone or any other auto spares outlet will have it.

2002 montero sport, i am experiencing tapping/ticking noise in the upper head department of 3.6 v6 engine. i change my oil regularly every 3000 miles. i put in seafoam in gas tank hoping it would help...

hi putting seafoam in fuel will clean the valves and pistons over time to use to do lifters you need to add to oil measure out the right amount for the oil measurements on the can.. also the tapping is it more when its cold or just the same no matter hot or cold or is it more louder when hot. when was the last time the timing was checked, are you using 5w/30 or 10w/30 oil.

How often should I service my transmission for my 2002 montero sport

The normal is every 30,000 miles but alot of the newwer cars and trucks are now using a synthetic trany oil and some dealer say its lifetime oil and not to service it, but i would at 100,000 i would replace the filter and pan gasket, or even at 80,000 miles, this is what i would do and what reccomended,im almost positive this truck has the synthic trany oil, call or look in your manually it will show you all the thing to do at each mileage service or ask a dealer. hope this helps.

Programming Key Fob

I have just bought a Shogun Sport Equippe TD, I have not taken delivery yet but I do own a Carisma and the way you program that remote key is to turn on the ignition for 10 sec +'s then switch off and press the close button, this causes the door locks to respond.
