Question about Cars & Trucks

Open Question

Toyota 7afe 1.8 litre fuel injection, modded aspirated. I've rebuild the motor due to a big end bearing knock which was caused by a faulty/ pirate oil pump. Engine starts, idles, revs up all the way to 7200rpm, doesn't smoke and has no abnormal noises. Its perfect. No loose plugs no leaks. Sufficient oil pressure. But when driven for about 20 seconds (driven hard or soft or normal) the engine light then comes on and power is reduced tremendously. This also started occurring a week before I rebuild the engine. I initially thought it was the bearing knocking noise interference with the knock sensor. Under light acceleration its fine, under medium to heavy acceleration the car slightly nose dives. Believe me, mechanical function and timing of the engine is perfect. What is the problem?

Hello,
There is a possibility that the old motor was not burning properly and you have carbon build up on the O2 sensers. A poorly functioning O2 senser will not allow the Fuel/Air mixture to work as you give it gas under load. You could have multiple O2 sensers too.

I have a loud knocking noise coming from my 3.5l engine on my 2000 intrigue. i am wanting to know what the problem is so i can decide to fix it or not. thanks

a loud knocking normally indicates big end bearings,(about 1/4 engine speed)not a big job but,an engine rebore/rebuild is normally the way to go,its cheaper in the long run.....

Would a faulty speed circuit sensor make the car idol noisy like a rattling knocking noise. noise is louder when accelerating.

NO, it sounds more terminal than that, if you have a knocking sound or noise coming from your engine it could be a few different things, 1. big end bearing, need to rebuild bottom end of engine this is the main one, best get it to a mechanic to clarify the problem for you

Noking

a knock from the bottom of the motor is a big end bearing STOP DRIVING, new engine or rebuild required, a knock from the rear of the engine could be loose pressure plate on clutch assembly, that is if it is a manual, STOP DRIVING. a rattle from top end is lifters or rockers but you say its a knock so probably not it. one test to do, remove all drive belts to water pump etc and start if the knocking is still apparent then it is internal and time to consider trade in, rebuild or new engine.

Knock in engine

it can also be an injector. injectors tend to supply more diesel after long service. To check if this is the problem: let the motor idle whilst it knocks. start from the front of the motor- loosen no1 injector fuel line- the motor will start idling roughly as fuel supply to no1 piston is starved. If the knock persists, tighten the fuel line and move to no2 injector and repeat the process. the knock will gradually go away if one of the injectors' fuel lines are loosened and the injector is faulty. If you get 1 or more injectors with these symptoms, remove and replace the injector. If the problem persists, it can either be that one of the diesel pump plungers are worn and supplies too much fuel or a big end bearing is faulty.
