That is the vacuum resevoir tank and I believe it hooks onto a fitting at the base of the throttle body; it should be a small, half inch long tiny pipe. Take off air cleaner which sits on top of throttle body and look on base where it fastens to the engine manifold.

The vacuum resevoir supplies vacuum after the engine's turned off to run things like the heater box flaps (they use vacuum motors)

No vacuum going to heater and ac control panel

you dont have any vacume at the ball resivore under the hood.. some are located on the hood its self and some under inner fender.. look for a black plastic ball lookin thing with 2 vac lines running to it.. one should be all rubber and one should be plastic with rubber ends.. the all rubber one is the in line follow it back to the engine and see if it is damaged somewhere, if so repair or replace.. one other place i have found problems is under the dash by the dog house or just above the dog house in the center.. improper installation of the house will kink or pinch the vac line and you will not get any vac at the control head

My 1985 chev blazer will not engage the front drive axel. I had the transmission replaced and i now have unconnected vaccume lines around transfer case/transmission area. Is there a valve or something...

if the light for 4wd does not come on it could be that a vacume line has cracked or become seperated from the ball under your battery listen under hood for a hiss, my hisses usually come from somewhere around the heater box where the lines join together on the way to the ball or the vacume ball may be bad the front wheels will not enguage without vacume applied as vacume pulls the locks in. The xfer case is working if it turns the short driveshaft

Ac seems to come on but air not blowing through the vents. the fan is working. i can hear it but nothing comes through the vents. you can feel some cold air coming from behind the dash.

Check for a broken vacume line under the hood find the vacume canister should be eather on the right or left side under the fender its a black round ball shaped with 2 hose's one in one outif the line is not attached or is leaking then you do not get any air

1995 dodge 3500 4wd wont engage have shifter on floor light wont come on or 4wd wont engage

Any time your dealing with a 4x4 system the best start is at you front axle. Its primarily a vacuum leak so check to see if the 2 vac lines are hooked up (its good to check the electric connections.). When your 4 wheel drive is engaged and the motors running you should have vacuum at one or both of thee lines depending on if your in 4 hi or low .
If no vacuum at axle check the Vacum switchs(the plug with 4 vac lines) on top of the transfer case it will have 2 feed lines(grey & green) they conect in to the into the vacum harness on back of motor (passanger side). A vacum schematic is normally located on the raditor core support (right under the hood next to hood release)
Hope this helps

Truck heating system changes from heat, defrost, and vent

thats normal, you are taking vacume from the heater system when you are under a load, but it returns when you let back up on pedal,if you wanted to alter this affect you might try installing a vacume ball to the heater vacume hose,

Front drive, 4 Wheel drive won't engage

that vacume line goes back to the transfer case, the end that goes behind the motor hooks to a steel tube so it does not get hot from the exhaust., my guess it should be hooked up so it will feed vacume to the vacume ball so it can lock in the axels. if you start the car and shift into 4 wheel drive and listen under hood you should hear a hissing sound, that is vacume, if you can't hear it there, you may have to craw under the right side to hear it, probably came unhooked underneith the car
