Can not remove key with out disconacting battery

There are two solenoid under the gearshifter cover that releases the shifter and locks the shifter and allows the key to be removed when it's in park. They get loose over time and some electronically go bad over time... First must check,to see if they are loose. If they are, tighten them back into place and try to remove the key without disconnecting the battery. It may be all you need to do! Its what happened to mine!!! Lol!!! Good luck!!

Everything is fine, but then without warning, i turn ignition key and everything blacks out

Sounds like a loose connection. Check all battery and starter connections for clean and tight connections.

The sound that warns you that your lights are still on or that your doors are open comes on when i open the door without the keys in whats wrong?

Is the key cylinder in the steering column turn or loose without the key in it? This is a common problem. There is a contact inside,and it's telling the body module the key is in,when it is not. Try wiggling/moving the key cylinder wo/ the key in.Don't forget to have all doors closed and lights off when doing this!

My key wont unlock the trunk anymore but the remote opener does.

There is a cable that runs from the key cylinder to the latch mechanism. There are clips that hold the cable housing in place, and if one of those comes loose then turning the key just moves the housing without releasing the latch. Check the clip closest to the latch. To get the trunk open drop the back seat, crawl in, and pull on the cable.

It is also possible that the cable is broken or damaged and needs to be replaced -- I assume you will then need to replace the enrite assembly.

Key stuck in ignition on 89 plymouth sundance

Without taking the ignition apart, you will really have to do some work, what you might want to do is get in the passenger side, grab the key with a good set of pliers, and get some leverage. If you grab, move the key back and forth while jiggling the wheel, the lock should come loose and the key should slide out. Be careful not to turn the key too far, because then you'll break it off, hope that works.

Warning tone not working when headlighs left on and key removed

Do your interior lights come on when you open the driver's door? If not, the driver's door jamb switch probably got knocked loose (usually if the seat belt buckle catches it when closing the door)

More often than not, you can remove the switch and reconnect the two pieces back together and it'll work fine without needing to replace the switch.

Use an 8mm socket to loosen the retaining screw (it has phillips slots too, but it's usually too tight to use a screwdriver without buggering it up.

Key problem again

Hey Chelsea,

Back at it again right. Hey that black cable that you jiggled ( i like that work jiggle) must be the cause of your problem. Make sure that the cable is not loose or anything like that. I am most certain that is you check the cable you'll see the its loose. I really hope you finally get to drive your car without worrying about your key not wanting to come of the ignition. That sucks by the way. Let me know if this works Chelsea.

Trunk release, interior lights, locks etc does not work

Hi,

To open the trunk, you could try:
1. using the key, push down on the back of the trunk while turning the key. A word of caution and try not to force otherwise, the key might be twisted cut;
2. use the automatic trunk opener (in the glove compartment). You would need someone to press down on button while another is pushing down on the back of the trunk;
3. alternately, there are some models where the rear seats fold down and opens into the trunk.

On the fuse/interior lights and locks, if you have replaced with a known good fuse and problem persist, it may be caused by:
a. corroded or loose fuse holder;
b. corroded or loose fuse block connector;
c. corroded or loose harness connector (unfortunately inside the trunk);
d. defective wiring harness;
e. loose ground.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
