It will be a problem as the heat shield is there i to stop the floor from getting hot. It stops heat from going to other areas (fuel lines ,wiring harnesses )and causing problems

Why is the area by the pedal so hot?

The most likely reason is when the new cat was installed, the mechanic did not reinstall the stock heat shield that protects the floor from the excessive heat of the catalytic converter. the heat shield either mounts to the floor underneath the car, about the converter, or mounts directly to the converter. Another possibility is that the heat shield was integral to the converter, and the converter that your mechanic installed was a cheap version that did not come with the required heat shield. Either way, I would suggest you try to get the problem resolved, as excessive heat from the converter could cause a whole host of issues.

Warm up catalyst efficiency below threshold bank1 on galant 02 v6: someone pls tell what is this ? and where is bank1 located on this car ?

unfortunately you will need to replace your catalytic converter. Bank one is the bank which contains the number one cylinder. If you locate the number one cylinder you can determine which catalytic converter needs to be replaced. Hope this helps

2001 mitsubishi galant with a P0421 code whut to do

this code relates to catalytic converter efficiency, could be a bad o2 sensor, bad cat , prob gonna need a mechanic to diagnose, if you do decide to replace o2 sensor you want to change the one behind cat, tghis one monitors cat function

2005 gallant with O2 sensor engine light is one...how do I fix it?

have the engine light code scanned, and it'll tell you if it's bank 1 sensor 1, bank 1 sensor 2, bank 2 sensor 1, bank 2 sensor 4.

Bank 1 is on the same side as Cylinder 1
Bank 2 is on the opposite side of Cylinder 1

Sensor 1 is located before the catalytic converter.
Sensor 2 is located after the catalytic converter

2001 mitsubishi galant,2.4L eng. Getting DTC 421. Is this code related to the catalytic converter? Check eng. light always on, also DTC 302 showing.

DTC code P0421 is the O2 sensor that indicates a an issue with the Catalytic Converter. Replace the O2 sensor to the Catalytic Converter "the one after Converter" It's common for the sensor to fail and you can pick one up from Auto Zone and they will have the step by step instructions to replacing the O2 sensor.
DTC code P0302 Indicates a misfire on cylinder #2. Address the spark plug, spark plug wire, and injector. Look for any damages and try running some fuel injector cleaner through the fuel system to clean out the injectors.
Good luck and hope this helps.

You probably have a bad plug wire or cracked cap/roter , this can be seen at night in full darkness to pinpoint it. or you can buy a mechanics stethoscope (about 15.00 or less) and listen for it.
