Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

Today I changed my spark plugs out as a regular maintenance program that I follow and discovered my plugs were covered in oil. Why is there so much oil on my plugs? the car hasn't been smoking or had any loss of compression.

Need a little more information are you saying the plug end or just on the outer surface of the plugs.Makes a big difference if on the tips and no smoke and good compression while running..you may have bad valve stem oil seals allowing oil to drip into the cylinders when shut off..you will get a puff of smoke at start up but not running...if outer surface could top engine oil leaks like valve cover gaskets etc...if so see if you can locate oil on the area above the plugs..good luck

With 2005 Peugeot 407 2.2 engine how often is regular maintenance done or at what intervals and when is the timing due to be serviced? Thank you

maintenance as in basic? Oil changes depend on the type of oil you use. General idea is about every 5000 miles, air filter and spark plug wires and spark plugs should be checked at 18k miles. not sure how long you've owned the car. The timing belt should be replaced at 100k miles, despite what your dealer says. Earliest at 80k miles.

I pulled a spark plug to change plugs and the spark plug wire boot was all wet from oil. The other three plugs were fine. The rest of the engine looked fine apart from the regular dirty engine look. No oil...

yes, the valve cover gasket is the only thing that can cause this, and yes, you have to remove the cover and put a new gasket in to fix. Please let me know if you have more questions.

Oil around spark plug and car mis fires

The oil around the plug may be a sign that the valve-cover needs a new gasket. Oil on the plugs can cause a misfire but it is important that you check everything over. The misfire could be due to defective wires, boots, coils, spark-plug/s, injector/s, and so much more. Take a look at the cars maintenance history, Maybe it is over due for a complete tune-up or oil change. The car is 11years old, how many miles are on it? How was it running before this?

What to do when car reaches 70k miles

At 70,000 miles I would perform the following maintenance if you have not already done so. Have the transmission fluid & filter changed. Replace the fuel filter. Replace the spark plugs and inspect the wires. Replace the wires if they appear cracked or damaged. I am assuming you have done regular items such as oil, air filter changes and inspected the brake system.

It is most likely the camshaft postion sensor, it is located next to your oil filter and is easy to replace. I actually just changed this part on my friends car today and it solved the problem
