Question about Saturn Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

My key is stuck in the ignition of my 1993 Saturn and won't move or come out. I thought maybe I had left my lights on last night since the car didn't start and the battery seemed to be dead, but then

I don't know if this is the ignition cylinder or a gear problem (automatic transmission) or a battery problem or an operator problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Yes, that sounds exactly like the linkage. The steering wheel isn't locking because it is front wheel drive I think. Most front wheel drive cars will do that if the ignition is going faulty. I could steer my Malibu when the ignition went bad, just couldn't turn the key. But when I replaced the ignition, I couldn't steer it until I unlocked it.

Have you had the battery disconnected? Sometimes that will jar these new cars into life. But it is likely the ignition. Once you take that out, you can move the steering wheel freely. But as you know since it is fwd, it will be tough to steer like that.

Check advance auto parts, they have the ignition lock cylinders for about $40 after taxes. One that I saw has a key with it, but you can get it rekeying as well.

Your ignition could be stuck. That happened to me on my 2002 Chevy Malibu with 150,000 miles on it. The ignition sometimes gets stuck and freezes up. You'll have to pull it out and put a new one in. You can use the new key or have it re keyed to fit your old keys.

Thank you. I meant to ask if keys came with a new ignition lock cylinder. I wasn't sure about needing the new lock because the steering wheel isn't locked. Does that make a difference?

I think the steering wheel not locking is driving me crazy because I think the car doesn't know it's in park, and I have shifted many times even somewhat forcefully to try to jar it into realizing it was in park.

1993 Saturn Ignition Problem

If you pull the ignition switch you should be able to turn it with a screwdriver and either startor turn off the car. If the switch won't turn than the switch is the problem. If the switch turns and the new lock cylinder still won't turn than you need a new lock cylinder housing.

I put key in ignition and it won't turn. Steering wheel will turn but key won't turn. We have 2 keys and neither will work. What can I do?

If the wrong key was inserted it may have bent a tumbler pin, maybe try some wd-40 or similar and work it with the right key, might drop the tumbler back,,if not the whole ign. cylinder will have to be changed

It sounds like you may have a bad starter or maybe even a bad ignition switch. Then again there is always the possibility that you may just have a bad connection some where. I hope this helps you out.

My key won't turn the ignition, husband used HIS key last night and van worked fine, this morning... interior lights and door dinger works but dashboard lights don't come on, the steering wheel won't turn...

Could be a couple of things.
When you try to turn your key try releasing the pressure on the column by moving the steering wheel left or right. It should move a little and may be causinf enough pressure to prevent the key from turning.

Take your husband's key and have a duplicate made from it.

My car keys are stuck in the ignition system. (1994 Saturn). Can't turn it in or pull it out. Any ideas?

search on youtube for "saturn lock cylinder replacement". if you think you can do it, buy a generic lock cylinder at advance or autozone and give it a shot. if it works your ignition keys will not match your door and trunk keys but a dealer will charge you more than the value of the car to put in a new saturn lock cylinder.

94 Saturn...Stopped the car and ignition key stuck at ''ACC''. Will not turn to ''Off'' or ''start'' and will not come out of switch. Steering wheel does not lock and gear shift can be moved. How do I...

Unfortunately this model of saturn is known for this problem. Try tapping the head of the key lightly with a small hammer and then while shaking the wheel back and forth try to turn the key. The only known permanent fix is key cylinder repalacement.

Maybe a security passlock problem or ignition control module.Could still be a fuel pump issue.pump may run but not be building pressure!
