Wire my electric choke so it gets 12 volts right know its getting 10.50 is that good enough to run the choke properly?

Only one side of engine runs? Could be a head gasket problem on the right. It is a mechanical issue, not an electronic or electrical possibility as in newer cars. Do a compression test of the engine to see if the right side has compression failure from a bad head gasket.
A 1974 model would be a 12 volt system, not 6 volts. The last 6 volt systems were in the 1950's. If your coil is 12 volt and the left side runs and fires good, there is nothing wrong electrically. Check for spark on the right side, it should have spark on all cylinders if good spark on the left side. If no spark on the right side,. maybe a problem with the rotor or the distributor cap.

No doubt, you have lost a connection. It's most likely a ground connection because the rear of the car gets the most abuse from rain, road grime, rocks, etc. Specifically, use a 12 volt trouble light to find the red or black power line. Ground wires are green. If you can't get 12 volts using the ground to a 12 volt source you've found your problem. Unless you're familiar with electrical systems you should be able to find a local car mechanic to help. If you DO know about electrical then replace the ground wire if it's not getting a good ground.

No, replace the choke and /or wiring. You have 12 volts to it, replace the choke.

2001 nissan frontier new alternator and new battery but battery wont stay charged


Check all your wires that go to the starter and alternator, back to the battery. Something is not right in that circuit. You will probably need a wiring schematic to check properly. If you need anything else, please let me know. I am here to help.

Electrical problem alternater is good battery is good , getting only 12 volts at battery could it be the computer ?


if you are getting 12 volts when the engine is running the alternator is NOT good it should be between 13.8 & 14.3 volts when the engine is running if not the alternator or the voltage regulator is faulty......hope this helps.....cheers

It sounds like you need to inspect the wiring harness and look for broken wires and any wires that are hanging they may not be connected, the black exhaust is caused by a choke plate that is not opening on the carb the electric choke is not getting any voltage through the wire or the choke plate is out of adjustment it should be wide open after 5 minutes of running, check the fuses to be sure there is no blown fuses and check the wire that goes to the carb. to ensure it has 12 volts.

I have a 2000 towne and country with a bad passenger side window. My husband tried replacing the motor but the window still wont work. what else could the problem be? The driver side window works fine. We...


I'm assuming you checked all the fuses -- they should be good, but in some cases, the right and left side windows may be on separate fuses.

The best procedure to find this problem is to start at the motor and work your way back to the power source (fuse box) testing each component to see if it is getting voltage.

If you fail to get 12 volts at either of these steps then the component leading to the one which failed to show 12 volts is bad.

First step is to test, with a multimeter, the motor leads for 12 volts when the window switch is engaged.

If you get 12 volts, there, then you should test the coil side of the window motor relay for 12 volts under same conditions.

If you get 12 volts there, test the window switch leads for 12 volts on both sides of the switch. You can also use the multimeter to test the window switch for continuity to see if it is passing current. If it fails the continuity test, replace the switch.

If you get 12 volts there, let me know and we'll take the next step.


I know this is complicated, but electrical troubleshooting is not simple.

Red,black,green and white wires. what does what?


In a 12 volt system, generally, red is 12 volt +, black is 12 volt - or ground, green is ground, and white could be anything.

However, there are literally dozens/hundreds of colors/schemes used in an automobile's electrical system, and the above can't be expected to hold. Best way to get info on the wires is with a circuit diagram or just by tracing/testing with a multi-meter.
