Would a 4.88 ring and pinion gear lower my speed too low for street driving for my '93 chevy s-10 2.8 engine 2 WD w/a 5 speed manual transmission?

normal street diff ratios are in the 3:1 or 3.5: ratios as these give best performance speed and economy
fitting that ratio will give a lower top speed and may affect the economy as it makes the engine seem more powerful so less throttle is need for take off
it also will have higher rpms at your normal driving speed
(example -- normal ratio --60 mph 3000 rpms new ratio 60 mph-- 3250 rpms )
the speedo reading will be out as well enough to get into trouble with speed cameras
if you are not a led foot and take you time in traffic it will be just a bit slower
the only real way is to try it and see if you like the result

I have a 97 chevy blazer and cant find the front diff gear ratio

The differential ratio is stamped in code on the door post or the engine comp. Not the VIN, but the body, paint code. Tells you what motor, transmission, paint color, differential, you also have a build sheet stuck up under the seat, or behind the seat, it has everything in the car on it. All chevys have them. I just read that it is pasted on the glove box door, and here is the web site that talks about it.
Hope this helps.

I have a350 chev motor 700r4 trans 10bolt 8.5 rear what ratio to run in rear end it has 273's

273 will work for gas milage and speed. if you want some fast takeoffs, lower top speed, and bad gas mileage then go to around 3.50 maybee even 4.11
i would shoot for around 3.50

My oxegen sensor on my 2000 silverado chev. has been disconneted. what if any effect will that have on my truck ? tks

Your computer for the truck don't know what the lean ratio is of the gas, so it don't know how much air/gas ratio it should have which can cause bad gas mileage and failure codes (engine light). I produce these sensors at BOSCH and it can make a big difference if the engine don't know what the ratio is. If it's running to lean the it's not getting a good reading to mix the right amount of gas with the air. Vise versa

I need to replace the turbo 400 tranny in my chev 3500 4X4 silverado. I see lots of turbo 400's on craigslist. How do I know which ones work for my truck?

Four wheel drive th400 only,do not fool with having to change tail shafts, and out put shafts, look for one that was in heavy trucks.
