1993 is OBD1 and as 2 digit codes, so comment is wrong.
and the keyon blink codes takes no scan tool, in drive way.at home.
my guess it was 12 and 21. (2 codes are stored !) NOT 1.
12 is battery disconnected error, (due to service)
21. is oxygen sensor failure not TPS. (i didnt say replace it)
why not read a real FSM. click Emission chapter.
http://www.jeep4x4center.com/knowledge-base/index.htm?utm_source=cj#service

code 21 has extended data with real DRB jeep scan tool (
tells you what part of OXY DTC 21 fails (slow, shorted, dead , open , stuck high , stuck low, etc) the flash codes can NOT do that.

which engine? method varies by that. 4.0:?
this is covered in the FSM.
tells you too, how to do the calibration

if by chance (commenter answers for OBD2 code 1221 , tps)

no engine on any 93 jeep is 0BD2, so comment above is dead wrong , sorry fella, it is.
so never ask here. as they dont know years, here i guess.

the commenter added the p FOR p1221. (FAIL)
ONLY OBD2 HAVE P CODES (POWER TRAIN)
BY LAW 1996+ all cars USA are OBD2. this one not.
Some cars started early(smart companies...) and not jeep.
sorry.
now we go to the real problem. what is wrong, that is easy in concepts 101:
1: 02 sensor bad. (get jeep to scan it and find true sub code DTC)
1a: exhaust leaks near it... LOOK and Listen with hose to ear.
2: or engine runs bad. making 02 read wrong.
50 + causes. even a leaking injector or burned exhaust valve.
no need to guess, we do a battery of tests. to find this.

all cars, same for EFI Gasoline, same answer.
until 1996 when the scan tool shows vastly more DTCs and vastly better reasons,
But there are execptions,
Few ever read the FSM an fewer , even less read the DRB
parts, about the extended hex codes. DRB shows.
so my point, is this, yes any tool could read it, and most don't
but in life, there are always exceptions, and the below is 1.

Some newer scan tools can do this. but will cost you $200
i have one, and Innova. (ask)
Worth every penny if working old OBD1 cars. sure is.
I will save you $200 the first time you dont visit the dealer.
I promise.

here is the right tool

how do you like my post. better huh? no lies?
sure.

your welcome, some posters here only want you to buy parts (their deal) Passing smog is way more complex that reading a code and fixing that, but sure is first. O2 errors can be cased by many things, not just a simple bad O2 sensor. What we do is use a real scan tool and look at ALL LIVE data. includeing LTFT long term fuel trim, (ask) then we do Cat tests. (ask) and if you need help. then post the smog fail chit. post all gasses measured, verbatum, so we can see what's UP.? (clean engine oil, fully tuned up. and then scan all sensors for correct readings, make sure closed loop works at idle, if not fix that next, and then at light flat cruise, CL works>? then we look at the gasses)

Have the vehicle checked for more trouble codes. P1221 means throttle position sensor (TPS) out of range. This could be a loose connection or a bad sensor.Either way, not a difficult repair at all. How do I repair trouble code 1221 on my 1993 Jeep - 25310501-za4bqvjhdrn3arnyccyp5xaz-5-0.jpg

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 8Cyl4.7L When when driving over 50 miles per hour will lose all power whats wrong?

When you say it loses power, do you mean electrical power or engine power ?
You would need to look at the fuse boxes for a loss of electrical power, and use a scanner or code reader to check the computer for trouble codes for a loss of engine power.

I'm trying to find out what the code 12 means for a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited?

Code 12 on any Chrysler or Jeep vehicle simply indicates the battery has been disconnected. Most of the time this code is induced when someone has disconnected the battery as a means to clear trouble codes. This code will clear itself after several successful starts

Failed Smog: Have VIR report, 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee

You could install a new catalytic converter and oxygen sensor for under $200 instead of paying someone to tell you the same thing. If you go that route, you can get cheap parts at Quadratec.com or just plain old Autozone. You just have to cut the old cat off and clamp a new one on. I did mine in about an hour. The O2 sensor is easy too. On a side note, make sure your car is drive at highway speed for around 20 minutes to ensure the cat is hot enough to properly work.

Change the oil, run the car until it is really hot (the cat converter) and it should pass, did smogs for 30 years, this usually works.
