Depends on the car and manfacturer and what tools you have and your mechanical knowledge. I suggest you take it to a shop.

My pulley busted into pieces on my 1997 jeep grand Cherokee 4wd v8. It is the PS pulley. is this an easy job and why would something like this happen?

The part is not that expensive.
The thing is those pulleys don't come attached to the pump. They are separate and have to be installed and removed with a puller. I would suggest that you look on youtube for video and see what you can find. Also those don't just break, it may be something that was done when your friend worked on it or the pump is going bad.

Serpentine belt is seized. its not the alternator or tension pulley. car turns over and runs but squeals and starts to burn the belt. 1990 geo prizm. is there a common pulley that goes bad?

if its tight? its bad. if loose as a goose,flopping about its bad
there is no COMMON
bearing fail on all old cars, no bearings here last life of engine,not one. there may be an.idler bearing there and bad...

why not get mechanic to fix it, and not guess.

Coolant leak rear engine

leaking hose.
leaking fitting
or head gasket leaks.
with hot motor driven 20 miles
the system is at 14psi pressure.
so all leaks are childs play easy to find, open hood, look see the bad part leak, easy huh? super easy.
its dripping or squiring, telling you, IM bad.

one hard spot is water pump, it slings the water running.
not running, drips below pulley.'

Bad pulley and belt

If it's the big one on the bottom, that's not uncommon; it's called a harmonic balancer, and you'll need a special puller (available fairly inexpensively) to get it off. Make sure the big bolt in the middle is properly torqued afterwards; if it's not tight enough, it'll come loose - and the pulley will rock back and forth, eat up the end of the crank and cost you some big bucks. If it's the one at the very top, that's the power steering pump - you'll have to get that pulley at the dealer, and it also needs a special tool (a different one from the harmonic balancer puller) for removal and installation. The small idlers usually have bearing failures rather than "come apart", but they're easy to replace.

Yes, very simple....about 15 minutes and around $25 for the pulley.

The belt tensioner also could cause this problem, another easy fix.

Try taking the belt off, and start up the engine. Do you still hear that sound? If not, you're on the right track with the Idler Pulley. This sounds like a power steering pump starting to go out when they are bad, not a high pitched squeal.

How do I tell weither the crank shaft pulley is a sensor type or non sensor typ. 1996 V26 Engine 4M40 2.8 turbo diesel

Easy answer. When you look down from the top of the engine, there will be a small wiring loom that runs down the timing cover and enters very near the bottom. From memory it a two wire sensor. If this is the case u have a sensor type crankshaft pully.

I have 1993 blazer and belt keeps jumping off of the crank what is the problem and how to fix it or how much to fix it?

usally your tensioner is bad when this happens. they usally cost about $36 . it is held on with one bolt. easy to replace tensioner

How can i tell if my water pump is bad?

most of the time when a pump goes bad in starts to leak after you shut off the engine. May not be much and it may or may not leak enough to see it on the ground. Look around the water pump and see if you can see any wet spots and look at the water pump it self and it has weep holes one on the bottom and top see if you see any leakage from there if so the pump is bad

You can do it. If it takes longer than 10 minutes something is wrong. If its a V8 make sure the tensioner is good, Fan belts rarely just "break" so check all the pulleys.
