    I am upgrading the fuel pumps in my 2001 Cobra, so the fpdm needs to be beefed up to handle the extra load.

    the upgraded fuel modules are made upgraded in the PC board. You cant upgrade the voltage (Which takes other parts) and expect it to work. It won't take it. The module has to beefed up on the inside of it. Bigger transistors, capacitors, resistors, and diodes to take the load. Get what you need to beef it up.

    Thanks Randy, but that's a wiring diagram not a schematic. I was looking for the board level components for the fpdm.

If your talking about fuel pump driver module, separate from the fuel pump assembly, You don't have one that I can find. Not in the wiring diagram, the fuel pump assembly is called a module. I looked at ford partsbook for fpdm, not in there either. You do have a fuel pump shut-off/inertia switch. Do you want a wiring diagram for fuel pump?
The picture is location of inertia switch. I found the info in your owners manual.

Fuse F9 20amp location central junction box under dash , all so there is a fuel pump relay , the inertia fuel cut off switch an last but not least ,the FPDM - fuel pump driver module . Ford FPDM have known problems of corrosion . They are mounted under the vehicle on frame rail or rear axle housing . two different metals , aluminum an steel . So they corrode through an short out .

Did you test or just replace it ? There is a fuel pump driver module that controls the pump , an the PCM tells how much fuel to pump by a sensor on the fuel rail ! the fuel rail pressure sensor ! did you check Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) Switch The IFS switch is used in conjunction with the electric fuel pump. The purpose of the IFS switch is to shutoff the fuel pump if a collision occurs. It consists of a steel ball held in place by a magnet. When a sharp impact occurs, the ball breaks loose from the magnet, rolls up a conical ramp and strikes a target plate which opens the electrical contacts of the switch and shuts off the electric fuel pump. Once the switch is open, it must be manually reset before restarting the vehicle. Refer to the Owner's Literature for the location of the IFS.
Fuel Pump Driver Module (FPDM) Note: For the LS, the FPDM functions are incorporated in the rear electronic module (REM). The fuel pump operation is the same as for applications using the stand-alone FPDM. However, the REM communicates diagnostic information through the communication link instead of using a fuel pump monitor (FPM) circuit.
Note: The Ford GT uses 2 FPDMs to control fuel for the dual-injection fuel delivery system. The PCM outputs only one fuel pump duty cycle which is used by both pumps. The PCM individually monitors the FPDMs through their fuel pump monitor circuits. Both FPDMs are mounted on the same bracket. The FPDM mounted in the upper position on the bracket is referred to as FPDM and the FPDM mounted in the lower position, is referred to as FPDM2.
The FPDM receives a duty cycle signal from the PCM and controls the fuel pump operation in relation to this duty cycle. This results in variable speed fuel pump operation. The FPDM sends diagnostic information to the PCM on the fuel pump monitor circuit. For additional information on Fuel Pump Control and the Fuel Pump Monitor, refer to Fuel Systems in this section. Description:

The PCM monitors the fuel pump monitor (FPM) circuit from the fuel pump driver module (FPDM). With the key on, the FPDM continuously sends a duty cycle signal to the PCM through the FPM circuit. The test fails if the PCM stops receiving the duty cycle signal.

Possible causes:

Inertia fuel shutoff (IFS) switch needs to be reset
Open FPDM ground circuit
Open circuit to FPDM PWR RLY
Open FPDM PWR circuit
Open or shorted FPM circuit (engine should start)
Damaged IFS switch

Fuel pump driver module


Could have a problem with the fuel pump, partially blocked or seized and drawing too much current thru the FPDM. Also, pinched fuel line on either side of the pump or v dirty fuel filter could also cause pump to work too hard. Can you put a smaller fuse inline with pump motor, so that it blows before FPDM is damaged?

P1237 - Fuel Pump Secondary Circuit Malfunction

Electronic Returnless Fuel Systems (ERFS) utilize a Fuel Pump Driver Module (FPDM) to control fuel pressure. The PCM uses a Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor (FRP) for feedback. The PCM outputs a duty cycle to the FPDM to maintain the desired fuel rail pressure. During normal operation, the PCM will output a FP duty cycle from 5% to 51%. The FPDM will run the fuel pump at twice this duty cycle, e.g. if the PCM outputs a 42% duty cycle, the FPDM will run the fuel pump at 84%. If the PCM outputs a 75% duty cycle, the FPDM will turn off the fuel pump.

If the FPDM does not out any diagnostic signal, (0 or 100% duty cycle), the PCM sets a P1233 DTC. This DTC is set if the FPDM loses power. This can also occur if the Inertia Fuel Switch is tripped.

If the FPDM outputs a 25% duty cycle, it means that the fuel pump control duty cycle is out of range. This may occurs if the FPDM does not receive a valid control duty cycle signal from the PCM. The FPDM will default to 100% duty cycle on the fuel pump control output. The PCM sets a P1235 DTC.

If the FPDM outputs a 75% duty cycle, it means that the FPDM has detected an open or short on the fuel pump control circuit. The PCM sets a P1237 DTC.

Fix the Ford P1233 FPDM Fuel No Start Problem Here's a fix for that no-start condition on 2004-2008 Ford trucks. The FPDM (fuel pressure driver module) usually shows up as a P1233 diagnostic trouble code (OBD-II) when the truck's codes are read. A Ford P1233 code is described as Fuel Pump Driver Module Offline or Fuel System Disabled or Offline. A search on Google for Ford P1233 shows that this P1233 DTC code is not limited to being a problem on just Ford trucks. Others with the Focus, Mustang, Town Car, etc. also experience this problem.
You may experience stalling, no-starts, random no-starts, or other potential symptoms. A quick search over at MotorcraftService.com (a Ford service web site), they offer the following possible causes if the P1233 code is triggered:
  • Inertia fuel shutoff (IFS) switch needs to be reset.
  • Open FPDM ground circuit
  • Open circuit to FPDM PWR RLY
  • Open FPDM PWR circuit
  • Open or shorted FPM circuit (engine should start).

Where is fuel cut out fuse


There is a fuel inertia switch in the passenger side kick panel. This is in the owners manual.
If you did not get an owners manual with your truck ( purchased used ), you can download one from Ford :

The other problem could be the FPDM ( Fuel Pump Driver Module ) on the cross member above the spare tire ( need to lower the spare to see it ).
There was a problem with the factory ones, where corrosion would build up behind the module ( aluminum FPDM and steel cross member, dissimilar metal corrosion ? ) and cause the module to crack & the PCB in the FPDM would also crack.
Here is what mine looked like prior to changing ( metal body only cracked, PCB was still good )

The new revision has stand off type studs, so the FPDM does not make contact with the cross member
