97 sierra put truck in 2wd have clicking drivers front put back in 4wd went away

First guess would be to check the drivers side, CV-joint assembly. After that is "OKed" then I would move to the front output shaft and then onto the rear drive-shaft. Checking for bad U-joints. Let me know if that helped.

the brakes have not been set properly. may be something stopping the pistons going back in. failing that the disc's are bent, can happen when over braking down hills etc. you would need the alinement checking.

i would recomend you go to salvage yard and purchase a used one, that is to factory spec, you can even get one online under used car parts, there is a reason the manufacturer builds them the way they do.

Front grinding/rubbing sound when accelerating

if you slide under the truck and try moving the cv with your hands and there is any looseness in joint or noise the joint is indeed worn out, the cv joint if bad should not stop the truck from shifting into 4 wheel drive it could be stuck in 4wd and this would cause cv joints to break, if u have access to lift get all tires in air and try2 vs 4 drive and see if tires turn if not lift front tires off ground tires should turn freelyin 2wd, as u turn tires listen to wheel bearing and shaft noises for grinding clunking indicating bad parts, simple tricks that may help u find problems for cheap good luck!!

Front end (4wd) gear lock?

grab the cv joint (shaft with the rubber boot that cnnects to the wheel) and see if it wobbles, but the wheels have to be straight and its got to be in 2wd and in neutral with the parking brake set...Or jack up the vehicle on that side and turn the wheel back and forth quickly and watch if the cv joint shakes.(like if its not round)if it shakes then replace the cv joint...about up to $150.00 for a rebuilt one plus a core charge.

Popping and grinding noise coming from the right front tire.

it depends if you have 2WD or 4WD, probably either your CV joints, or your wheel bearing, also have your upper and lower ball joints looked at, durangos are bad for those going out. 4WD could have additional problems, like transfer case, front axle bent, and other 4WD probs. i had a similar problem and it was my wheel bearing. buy it offline, not at the parts store, it saved me $140. compared to O'riely Auto Parts.
