What did the oil look like before you changed it? Does the oil have any foam in it after running now? Coolant level been dropping? Any recent repairs on intake gaskets or radiator? Only at idle or at all RPM? Hydraulic lifters in your motor usually don't make noise until coolant has been mixed with the oil, otherwise they're pretty reliable. Factory intake gaskets were notorious for the rubber seal separating from the plastic housing, thus mixing oil and coolant. May be happening now or happened to a previous owner and the gaskets were replaced. Foamy, milky looking oil will be a telltale sign. A good scan tool, that will show you live data with mis-fire counter, should help pinpoint the cylinder(s) causing the noise

Will crankshaft sensor make 2003 Buick century with 3100 (3.1) engine not crank?

Crank sensor only tells the ignition modual what position the motor is in. If it's not cranking you may have a starter solenoid or starter going bad, bad battery, or other electrical issue, could even be a bad ignition switch.

What grade of oil does the 3100 v6 engine take

Any good oil will work. newer engines use 5-30 for better gas mileage. Your car may have 100K miles so I would use 10-30 or 20-30 if you can find it. Change the oil and filter every 3000-4000 miles and the engine will last a long time.

How to bleed cooling system on a 3100 Buick Century?

If there is a bleed valve near the upper radiator hose, you can use that.
If not, you would have to run the engine with the cap loose until the thermostat opens to let the air escape.

Lifters problem

my good friend the tap noise you have is not only due to taps failure. Is also coming due to not good oil viscosity and how often you do oil change. My Advice is to do and engine oil flush with a Restore flusher for 40 minutes then drain your old oil drain the old filter and after re-use the old filter with 2 liters of new oil and restart the car and leave it for 10 minutes and then renew oil & filter and use again the Restore friction reducer and every 3000 miles do oil change. If your valves are adjustable do the valve clearance,if not try every 3000 miles to do the same flush way I recommend. It will work unless is a long time working with the tap noise where surely caused damage . Good Luck and let me know with the outcome.

Why does 2003 buick century erraticlly idle in park. idles great in drive

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control

I have a 1999 Buick Century V6 3100 that I had to replace the intake gaskets due to antifreeze leaking into and out of the engine. When I had it all apart I noticed the very first lifter #2 cylinder...

If the engine oil was full of antifreeze when the intake gasket went bad, then there is a good chance that there may be some cam and/or lifter damage. A more likely cause of your problem would be that the push rods got mixed up when you put it back together. The intake and exhaust rods are different lengths. If this is the case, and you have turned the engine over, there is a good chance that you now also have a bent pushrod and intake valve. The exhaust pushrod is the longer one and if you mix them up, the piston will contact the intake valve because it will not be able to close due to the longer pushrod. This will bend or break the pushrod and bend the valve stem.

2001 lincoln navigater lifters tapping and oil pressure gauge drops when engine has been running for 20 minutes or so. Then when you allow it to sit for about 15 minutes and restart it the oil pressure is...

did you by chance had the oil filter changed because there is a antidrain back valve in the filter, also if the filter is plugging up it will bypass to line pressure.causing lower oil pressure.try the filter first then have oil pressure checked when cold and again when hot.
