There is a outside temp sensor mounted on the radiator support in the front of the car,sensors get dirty or just fail

Hi pat the temp sensor is on the left side below the grill a black pointed sensor just cliped behind the splitter bar i would just change it. the temp wont change right away drive the car a couple of miles D

The pontiac G5 has a defect on some of them that need a new ignition switch. I just had to get mine replaced because mine did the exact same thing. If you remove the fuse it will not fix the problem!
