When did you last replace trans filter and fluid? Dirt may be causing shift valve to stick.

Truck doesnt go into any gear

A Chevy Malibu is not a truck. Newer vehicles have so many sensors and safety systems it can be very difficult to diagnose any problem without a computer. You may need to have the engine running and sit in the drivers seat with the seatbelt on in order to get it into gear. If the shift lever seams locked in park I would suspect a problem with the brake pedal sensor. Unless you parked on a steep slope without using the emergency brake. Are your brake lights coming on when you press the pedal? If not try letting the pedal slap back a few times. Sometimes even a small grain of sand can cause temporary problems. There may also be a sensor in the seat. Check to see if its plugged in.

Your engine isn't the only thing that can give you a light. That being said the engine may be trying to tell you it is under unusual strain because tranny isn't shifting right. May need tranny flush. Take to a reputable shop.

1996 Corolla Auto Transmission problem

Hi. 2005 Corolla CE. It's normal. They tend to do this when upshifting form 1st to 2nd gear. No timing chain readjustment needed.

96 Corolla. Overdrive not working properly, if not engaging after 45mph constantly. If driving on the city, is normal, but not after 45mph, when the car is trying to engage overdrive in order to save gas and preserve the trans gears. If not able to get help at the dealership, find another one and explain them the situation.
