1976 chevy k10 350cdi base model no ac.will not warm up upper radiator hose gets hot heater lines both get hot but lower hose stays cold. changed thermostat filled till full ran air out of system no change.still blows luke warm heat. system presurizies cap checks out no clue what to try now?????

Check to see if the lever activated by the temperature control cable is actually moving when you move the control. Maybe a stuck valve in the heating system.

It sounds like you have a blockage in the system and by the description it sounds as if it is the heater core. The best advise I have is to pull the heater hoses off of the heater core and blow backwards into the core. Next would be to make sure the hoses both heat up, the top and the bottom.

Heaters running cold at 90 degrees


If the engine is running at a normal temperature I would suspect the thermostat.
Normally from a cold start the coolant should only circulate through the bypass hose, the heater matrix, and back through the engine, As the engine warms up and the thermostat begins to open the coolant is directed through the main radiator - at this point you will be able to feel the upper and lower radiator hoses warming up.
If the thermostat is faulty and permanently open you will be able to feel the upper and lower radiator hoses warming up very soon after starting the engine and at the same time as you feel the heater hoses begin to warm. This causes most of the heat to be radiated away and so the heater will never warm up.
Unfortunately the thermostat is hidden underneath the water pump on a passat and requires the cooling system to be drained before it can be changed. It may also require the power steering pump to be removed to get access to the thermostat cover.

Heater doesn't get hot on 96 chevy truck. Blows good, just cold. Replaced thermostat, flushed radiator. Any ideas?


Air Temperature Control Blend Door Failure No Heat or no AC (dependes on where door sticks)

In all modern cars there is a tiny DC electric motor driven gear drive that moves a plastic door that blends heated and cooled air from the AC and the heater core, this is called (interestedly enough) the air temperature control blend door actuator. The motor that moves this door fails because the door starts sticking from warping, most common complaint is no heat but it can be no AC as well. To replace these parts (blend door and blend door actuator) you must remove the entire dash from the car. Always have this problem confirmed by a dealer or qualified repair shop as it is a very expensive repair.

Other causes of no heat in the cabin are engine thermostats that are stuck open (engine runs cold) or air bubbles in the cooling system.

Both of the hoses at the heater core should be hot. If one is cold the heater core is plugged. You can think of it this way. If the thermostat was stuck closed and you checked the upper and lower radiator hoses with the engine hot the upper hose would be hot and the lower hose would be cool because there is no flow. If you check the hoses with a properly working t-stat both hoses will be hot when the t-stat is open and coolant is flowing. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. 2006 CHEVY COBALT OVERHEATING HAS NEW RADIATOR WATER PUMP AND THERMOSTAT


That is normal, it will not get hot without the thermostat. The water cools in the radiator and falls to the bottom and the bottom hose is cold. This is what cools the engine and stops it from overheating.

How to change the radiator


TO CHANGE RADIATOR FIRST YOU TURN OFF RADIO FIRST TO KEEP FROM LOSING RADIO CODE.DISCONNECT NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE.RAISE FRONT OF VECHICLE SUPPORT ON JACK STANDS.REMOVE THE LOWER SPLASH SHIELDS.NOW YOU NEED TO DRAIN THE COOLING SYSTEM.CATCH COOLANT IN A LARGE DRAIN PAN.REUSE COOLANT IF ITS FAIRLY NEW.IF COOLANT VERY OLD CHANGE IT.PUT OLD COOLANT IN SOME EMPTY CONTAINER TAKE TO A GARAGE OR WHOEVER DISPOSE IT.DONT POUR ON GROUND.HARMFUL TO THE ENVIRONMENT.MOVE THE AIR INTAKE DUCT PASSES OVER THE TOP RADIATOR HOSE.NOW WHEN ALL COOLANT DRAIN OUT.LOOSEN UPPER AND LOWER RADIATOR HOSE CLAMPS.THEN DETACH THE RADIATOR HOSES FROM THE FITTINGS.IF THEY ARE STUCK GRASP EACH HOSE NEAR THE END WITH A PAIR OF ADJUSTABLE PLIERS AND TWIST IT TO BREAK THE SEAL THEN PULL IT OFF REMOVE SMALL COOLANT SURGE LINES FROM TOP OF RADIATOR THAT GOES TO THE OVER FLOW RESERVOIR..DISCONNECT COOLING FAN ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR.THEN REMOVE THE COOLING FAN.REMOVE DISCONNECT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION COOLER LINES GET READY TO CATCH TRANSMISSION FLUID THEN PLUG LINES. NOW UNSCREW THE FOUR BOLTS TWO ON EACH SIDE OF THE RADIATOR THAT ATTACH RADIATOR TO THE AIR CONDITIONER CONDENSOR CAREFULLY TIP TOP OF THE RADIATOR SLIGHTLY TOWARDS THE ENGINE.REMOVE THE UPPER RADIATOR SEAL AND LIFT RADIATOR FROM THE ENGINE.NOW IS THE TIME TO REPLACE THE UPPER AND LOWER RADIATOR HOSES WITH NEW ONES SINCE ALL COOLANT REMOVE I WOULD REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.NOW WHEN YOU GET READY TO INSTALL NEW RADIATOR USE SHEETS OF CARD BOARD PROTECT RADIATOR FINS AND CORES FROM DAMAGE WHILE SITTING RADIATOR BACK IN PLACE.ONCE YOU GET UPPER AND LOWER HOSES IN PLACE ALSO PLACE SMALL SURGE HOSES FROM THE OVER FLOW RESERVOIR TO RADIATOR NEW THERMOSTAT AND TRANSMISSION COOLER LINES ALL HOOK UP. START POURING ANTIFREEZE IN THE RADIATOR OR OVERFLOW RESERVOIR IF RADIATOR DONT HAVE RADIATOR CAP ON IT.POUR A FULL GALLON ANTIFREEZE AND A HALF MORE IF LONG AS THE COOLANT STAYS ON THE COLD LEVEL MARK ON OVERFLOW RESERVOIR DONT OVER FILL.IF YOU POUR ANTIFREEZE IN RADIATOR KEEP POURING ANTIFREEZE UNTIL LEVEL STOP DROPPING AND LEVEL OFF AT RADIATOR TOP.START ENGINE CHECK FOR LEAKS. Okay sounds like you have a clog within the system, first of all, drain the whole cooling system, run clean water thought the top of the radiator, look to see when the water comes out nice clear, replace the lower hose if you have a petcock close that, refill the top of the radiator, until it is full, start the engine, with engine running turn your heater, let the car warm a little, then reopen the petcock or loosen the lower hose and let the water draw out a little until is pouring out nice and fast, then re-close the petcock and stop the engine.
try and get 40% of the water out, and replace it with 50/50 antifreeze fill to the right point of the cars specs.

Heater fan works, anti freeze full. heater does not generate hot air. plenty of warm air, just not hot air, no matter what the temp setting is.


it sounds like the thermastat needs replacing .it might be worn .so it is not closing .check the heater hoses .if they both are hot the heater core is blocked
