You could have bad head gasket, cracked block, bad water pump. I suggest taking to repair shop immediately as continued operation without water is asking for major problems. Also, its cold here, running straight water in radiator will freeze and crack engine block. This is a serious issue

What would be the cause of the radiator in my 1978 bedford truck to be getting hot and it's not the thermostat because it doesn't have 1 it's a 214 motor


On a 1978 vehicle, blocked radiator cores or a failed water pump. First thing I would do is drain the system and use commercial central heating descaler in it, or a gallon of white vinegar and water. Burp the air out of the system and run it a couple of days. Drain and rinse thoroughly, fill with antifreeze and run. Still does it, drain and keep the fluid, replace the pump. Still does it, replace the radiator. Or do the whole lot, pump and new radiator, fill with antifreeze and burp the air out. Make sure heater is on full heat when you do it.

I have a 92 honda civic ex I keep losing water I replace the radiator, no water in the oil , no water on the oil fill cap and i check the water pump can't find where the water is going please help


Ok so you need to pressure check the cooling system. The whole reason we pressurize the cooling system is to raise the boiling point of the water most systems are 15psi which raises the boiling point to about 255° if the system cant hold pressure you could simply be boiling off the water. Also while pressure testing its a great time to look for leaks. You may also want to inspect the heater core

HI Anon.
Remove your radiator cap (WHEN ENGINE IS COLD), run the motor and let it warm up a minute or two, have someone rev the engine a little while looking into the radiator. If the water goes down and/or you see the water moving, your water pump is good. If not this means that your water pump is bad and is not moving enough water through the system. Try Removing your thermostat and run the engine without it. Keep checking the radiator hoses to see if they are the same temperature. If they are not the same temperature the water pump is bad. If they are the same temperature your thermostat is more than likely the culprit. Hope this helps.

If it were mine, I'd remove the top radiator hose from the radiator, and use a garden hose for an extension to it, and then have another garden hose ready to keep the radiator filled to the top with water.
You will also need to plug the connection where the radiator hose was taken off.
Take the thermostat out, it is often in the housing where the lower radiator hose attaches to the engine block.
Put the housing back on without thermostat.
Now, start the engine.
The water pump should pump a lot of water out of the garden hose, as it tries to go to the top of the radiator. Be sure to keep the radiator full as you do this.

Put heater on high heat to circulate water in those hoses and heater core. Then start the car after removing the radiator cap and filling with coolant to the top. When the radiator opens you will see the liquid level go down- add more coolant and keep adding till it stays full. Meanwhile fill the overflow to recommended level. When radiator level goes down no more, put radiator cap back on and let engine and coolant cool. If any more water is needed the vacuum created by the shrinking water will draw it in from the overflow.

Yes it is normal just no hot air


1. When setting the temperature to MAX, blower level to FULL and outside air Vent CLOSED, no hot air comes out after 2-5 minutes?
If YES, when did you last flushed your radiator and is it full?
2. if more than 5 years ago, flush radiator system, instructions are usually in Owners manual. Use a bottle of Radiator cleaner, run egine hot for about 10-15 minutes, carefully open petcock in bottom of radiator to flush out radiator, WARNING, careful as flushed coolant would be boiling hot. As sson petcock is open and water start to flow out, carefully open radiator cap to enhance flushing flow. Use garden hose to fill radiator while flushing until water coming out from petcock is cold and clear.
Once clear, start engine, turn heter full and blower full blast and keep hose in radiator flowing full, leave petcock open until clear water flows out again. Once clear waters comes out, turn off engine,turn off garden hose and let water drain empty radiator. Once it stops flowing out, close petcock snug and put radiator cap on, pull off radiator coolant catch bottle, clean bottle for any debris and dirt. Drain any water, leave bottle empty and put it back onto its place.
3. Fill radiator with 1 gallon (4L) of concentrated coolant, top up radiator until full, fill catch bottle with concentrated coolant, start engine and keep it overflowing until no bubbles comes out and the radiator is fully hot. Once it is flowing good, close and connect everything. Drive with it and keep catch bottle filled as necessarry.

open radiator and fill the radiator. open expasion tank and fill it to the FULL mark.
start the engine with the radiator cap off. keep topping the radiator up as the air comes through the system and the level goes down. keep it FULL. top up the expansion tank if necessary back to the full mark, do not fill it to the top you will only get coolant all over your engine bay!
gently rev the engine for 20 seconds just to send the water round and get some air out of the system. top up both radiator and tank again if required. refit the radiator cap and expansion tank cap. go for short drive. check the levels again (be careful with the radiator cap since the coolant will be hot now!) - should be settled now.

ready for the road!

I am putting in a new radiator on my 99 hyundai sonata 2.5 l how much radiator fluid do it hold


i do not know exactly but that size vehicle usually holds almost two gallons, fill it up, put the cap on the radiator, run the vehicle until the temp guage is at normal operating temp, then turn the vehicle off. after about a 15 min wait, use a rag and take the radiator cap off slowly and make sure there isn't any pressure behind it. after removing, top off the radiator again and fill the overflow tank to the max level. this should get all the air out and get you on the road again. check again everytime you get gas for a couple times making sure that the level is good.

make sure your engine cooling fan is working, check to see if your thermostat is staying closed and not allowing circulation in your engine, do this by squeezing the radiator hose when the car is hot, if it is hard to squeeze the thermostat is most likely the issue

hi jasso, I would recommend checking the water pump if you see no flow in the radiator. Make sure when you fill up the cooling system, that you fill it cold, and that the vent screw in the radiator is loose. fill system until fluid comes out the vent screw. tighten the screw, start the car and have someone run at 1500rpm and check for flow.also, make sure that you have your temp setting full hot and blower on middle speed so that you don't trap air in the heater core.
