What is your advice on doing this. I have never done this before.
Servicing a tranny isn't hard but the everyday guy can't thoroughly get the job done. The basic service will help, but dropping the pan and changing the filter and fluid here will only change a small amount of the total fluid. The torque converter in an automatic transmission holds the majority of the fluid. Most of the time you can't change the fluid in the converter without special equipment. You must take it to a shop to have this done thoroughly. There they have a machine that hooks up to the tranny cooler lines and cycles the fluid out until all the old stuff is replaced with new.
It's not hard, but you'll need to count the bolts so that you gwt the right gasket. Undo all the bolts but the rear two corners-loosen these but don't remove. Allow the pan to lean to drain the fluid then remove the pan, replace the filter, replace the gasket, reinstall pan and add tranny fluid to the dipstick.
