Question about 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe

1 Answer

A few times last week and this week, when I started the car, it sounded as if the starter was stuck for 2-3 secs after the ignition kicked over. Earlier today my car would not start. I went out this

After i got the car started tonight, I took the car to Autozone to have the starter tested. Autozone could only test to see if the current was passing through. It was at 170V. So other than the starter, what other problem could it be?

Can not get 170 Volts out of a 12 volt system

(170 amps maybe)

Have a quality shop do some testing to find a problem

Auto Zone may not be the place to go

The starter can be tested for more than current

Where is the starter relay on a 1995 Mitsubishi Mighty Max PU

It sounds more like you have a bad connection somewhere or possibly a weak battery.

Car Starts Intermittently

There is a few things that it could be.... The Starter could have been jammed and by rotating the Crank, it is now aligned. It could have a bad connection (Ground or Power) on the Starter. It could have corrosion or a Stuck Starter Relay or the Ignition Switch and then list goes on and on. Any one of these problems could have caused the issue. As a Mechanic, I would tell you this... Clean your Connectors and tighten them and count your blessings and if it continues to work, then you are home free.

2 problems
starter is bad, (if it spins up fast and the crank shaft is stalled its a bad starter (battery charged 100% and good)
problem 2 is called low idle and will cause stalling
there are vast ways to stall any engine, (i will not list them)
are
1: egr stuck open , stalls at all stop signs.
2: isc stuck closed,
the former is harder to save the stall with right foot actions?
the later is childs play, (you are now an ISC)

that starter can in fact fail in many away.
Shorted (over current and causes solenoid to drop out)
open, starter, its dead as a door nail.
bad solenoid. causes free running of starter, it spins up real fast
and the engine crankshaft is no moving,
this is a bad solenoid or just a dirty shaft for pinion.
solenoid main contacter, bad, intermittent starts. or DEAD.
the contactor can sieze, and engine keeps cranking
this is a horrible ugly mode of fail, the engine can infact
destroy the starter (100HP kills 5ph starter by going over speed.)
theres is a clutch in the starter that prevents this, but it to can fail
or get dirty and jam.
if you were to say exactly what the starter did,. step by step
we can answer the why>?

i turn key, the starter spins ,but not engine
or same and its too slow
same and it only clicks
or same and when i release the key the starter is still making noises...
see?

is your fuel pump on check for a safety cut off switch to see if it needs to be reset. if not a power to pump problem could be your pump sock is plugged or the pump has failed.

Do you get a clicking sound? If so it could be the battery or the starter. If not then its the starter solanoid (relay)

I would imagine the starter is going bad. My corsica does that when its really cold. I would have the starter tested. And check your wire connections for corosion.
