What does an engine indicator lamp means?

I turned on and off the engine several times but every time I turned on the engine, the indicator lamp lit. The engine runs smoothly but I don't want to use it without fully understanding the warning light. My son used my car several months back and got stalled. I brought the car to Nissan service center and several engine sensors were replaced and the engine was totally cleaned up.

The check engine light could indicate many different faults! The only way to be sure is to get the fault codes read! This will indicate where the fault is! If you do not have a code reader then take it to a garage to have this done!

OK! First:
- The engine management unit (ECU) has detected a fault and this is why the malfunction indicator warning light has activated. The most common causes are faulty camshaft or crankshaft sensors, a faulty lambda (oxygen) sensor, catalytic converter, or a faulty coil pack or spark plug.
A fault code should be stored on the ecu's memory which will point your garage in the direction of the fault. The only way to find out what has caused the problem is to take your car to a garage that has the correct diagnostic equipment, and have a diagnostic check carried out, which will reveal what the fault code is. Most garages have this equipment nowadays, even if you don't take it to a Nissan Center, so I would suggest phoning round for a quote unless you have a regular garage. You do not have to go to a main dealer.
Anyway, there are so many reasons why the light could come on, so guessing would not be wise and will almost certainly end up costing you money. Maybe it is some very minor thing, but better check it out.
I hope this answers your question.

What does the service engine light mean on a 2015 Ford Edge

Service Engine Soon

If the Service Engine Soon indicator light stays lit after you've started the engine, the On Board Diagnostics system (OBD) has detected a malfunction of the vehicle emissions control system. Contact your authorized dealer as soon as possible.
If indicator light is blinking, an engine misfire may be occurring, which could damage your catalytic converter. Drive in a moderate fashion (avoid heavy acceleration and deceleration), and have your vehicle serviced immediately.*
The Service Engine Soon indicator light illuminates when the ignition is first turned on (prior to engine start) in order to test the bulb, as well as indicate whether the vehicle is ready for Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) testing.
Normally, the Service Engine Soon light will stay on until the engine is cranked, then turn itself off if no malfunctions are present. However, if after 15 seconds this light blinks eight times, it means that the vehicle is not ready for I/M testing.Check this link out Gary.

I have this < !> lamp lit on my dash

It means a warning has been activated and is still current. When you initially start the engine you should see on the main screen in front of you what the warning relates to. Often for me it's low fuel!!! But at the moment it's also telling me to "Check Brake Lights". You'll need to go to your service place to get them to fix the problem and then the warning will be deactivated. The warning explanation doesn't stay on the whole time you are driving so you need to see it at the moment you turn on your car.

Oil Lamp Indicator in instrument panel stays lit (1997 Camery)

I would go back to Walmart and have them fix it for free. I suspect it's a bad oil filter. If you hear engine knocking or noise, don't drive vehicle.

The first thing I would do is check the Transmission Control Module (TCM) for stored codes. To call up codes, cycle ignition switch on, off, on, off and on within 5 seconds. Stored codes will be indicated by flashes of the check engine lamp. The codes will be indicated as two digit numbers, with a four second pause between codes. An example of a code scan is as follows:
  • Power Loss/Check Engine Lamp illuminated for approximately 2 to 3 seconds as a bulb check, then turns off.
  • Lamp flashes 2 times, pauses, then flashes 6 times.
  • Lamp pauses for approximately 4 seconds.
  • Lamp flashes 3 times, pauses, then flashes 1 time.
This would indicate that code 26 and 31 are stored. The lamp will continue to flash until all stored codes have been displayed.
If we are lucky we'll get some codes to work with. This will show you any transmission codes.

I found that a code 31 on a 94 Voyager indicates an evaporative emissions problem, but I'm not sure whether that code applies to your car as well. Have the ECU scanned at AutoZone and see what comes up. They'll do it for free and will give you the codes. Then you can post them up and we'll see what we can do about them.

Switch off tire pressure warning light

From the manual: First find the reset button, located below the handbrake (emergency brake) lever. The button has an "exclamation mark in a tyre" symbol.

Make sure the pressures in all tyres are what you want them to be. 35psi all 'round is good for sporty driving.

Engine off. Turn ignition to the second position (ON) but don't start the engine.

Keep the re-set button pressed until the flat tyre indicator light on the dashboard COMES ON for several seconds.

Start the engine, and drive the car normally for several minutes. This will re-set the indicator to whatever pressures you have in the tyres. Hope this helps!!
