Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

My 2003 VTX 1800R power totally cut out when trying to start this morning. Now no power, no lights like I removed the battery. Is there some sort of reset I am missing.

Checked the fuses in the fuse box all look good. No time to do much else so far.

2003 toyota tundra put new battery in but still dead by next morning

Yes I went nuts with the dead battery problem till I found TSB_EL015-03. Seems the frist half of the production year 2003 Tundra has a problem with the tow package relay being left energized if you leave the lights in the daytime running position so that they turn off by opening the door, it will run the battery down.
Toyota knows this, won't do a recall, but there is a kit you can get that is listed in the Technical Service Bulletin EL015-3. When it tell you to use a special tool to remove a pin from the large connector (red) don't bother, you will never get it out. Just cut the red wire and use a crimp tool to splice it to the kit's wire. There is no room to work it, just cut it and splice it.

Turn key to start and nothing

Not if you left your headlights on all night and completely drained the battery. if it is dead, try to jump it, if you get some sort of power with the jumpers attached, go buy a new battery.

sounds like a battery or ground connection problem , disconnect and clean the inside of the battery cables and the posts, tighter securely . If that doesn't do it remove the other end of the negative cable and clean the cable end and the metal that it bolts to.

Electrical Problem

Clean & inspect battery connections, (both ends), charge battery fully & have it load tested. I suspect bad connection, bad battery, and at worst, worn out starter.
