Question about Cars & Trucks
WHEN I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE CAR UP AND DIED GAVE IT AJUMP AND ALL IT DID WAS WHINEING SOUND WHEN TURNING IT OVER MAKES A SOUND LIKE STARTER WENT OUT BUT THE PULLYS ARE ALL TURNING WHEN U GO TO TURN IT OVER I HAD CHANGED THE SPARK PLUGS A HALF MILE BEFORE THE CAR SHUT DOWN I HAD PULLED OUT SPARK PLUG AND TURNED OVER AND GOT NO SPARKS. I PUT MY FIGURE OVER THE HOLE AND TURNED IT OVER WELL IT WOULDNT PUSH MY FIGURE OFF THE HOLE SO I KNOW THERE NO COMPRESION THIS CAR MILES READ 938.3 THE OIL QUART AND HALF LAW AND BLACKWHEN I PULLED THE NEW PLUGS OUT THEY LOOK LIKE THEY WERE BURNED
Sounds very sick. I would check the compression on all cylinders before buying any parts for it. Low compression or no compression is an internal mechanical problem and very serious. Is it a timing chain or belt? If a belt, check that it is not broken.

SOURCE: cutlass supreme wont start
It could possibly be the starter, but before you get that far make sure the Battery cables are connected very tight. If loose the car won't start or do anything. Also make sure the battery cable is grounded.

You would have to take the numbe 1 plug out and take the valve cover off .. first run the engine up on the timing mark to tdc the piston should be at top dead center meaning all the way up .. Now with the valve cover off you can check to make sure the valves on number one are closed. if this is the case then your timing is right and your belt or chain is ok... if you have problems with this let me know thanks jerry .. btw did you shoot a little starting fluid into the air cleaner to make SURE its getting fuel ? i now you said the fuel pump was making a noise but you didnt say for sure if there was fuel pressure ? thanks jerry

The oil in the spark plug may cause the car to run sluggish. The oil may prevent the spark plug from firing correctly or cause you to burn oil. You may want to replace the oil seals around the spark plug holes by removing the valve cover and you should be able to change the oil seals underneath the cover. While at it check the engine for loose wire connections and loose vacuum hoses.
