Question about 2002 Dodge Durango

1 Answer

My Dodge Durango sounds like a heavy truck. The sound is very different from the norm. It has the loud and heavy VOOM sound. What could it be?

Had it tested on the machine.

If that's so, how much would it cost to have fixed? And plus the engine looks great.

I just replaced th fan clutch and water pump on my 2004 durango 4.7 and when i step on the gas now tach needle jumps up like crazy and the fan sounds like a jet and the engine seems slugish

The fan clutch may be different from the original, they use oil inside to vary the speed most of the time. Some are more affected by air temp than others.
As far as performance goes, is the check engine light on ?

You need to check the cv joints in the front end or the u joints in the front drive shaft. If none of the above then the problem is internal in the front diff.

I just installed a clutch fan into my 2004 dodge durango and now the suv runs so heavy. I mean the suv runs loud. Is this normal?

Not sure what you mean by "heavy" and "loud"..

The fan might be "louder" because it may have been allot more quiet with the old failing fan clutch and not spinning fast enough.. Thus the new one working correctly making the fan spin much faster and being "louder"..
If that makes sense - to you question..

02 Durango: loud engine/exhaust sound. Also Recently noticed the cooling fan running more than normal; had someone check the antifreeze/coolant....it was empty....had them put in a 50/50mix of coolant and...

That noise is probably the air injection system which is part of the emmision system. When it is making that noise, open the hood and determine where it is coming from, note if it is a mechanical sound, etc. The air injection if equiped would sound almost like forced air scaping somewhat like an exhaust leak, but less intense.

Old car noise on my 2005 durango sounds like the muffler

The 2005 Durango has a notorious issue with the exhaust manifold blowing out
it is a $10-$15 fix if you have someone to replace it.

when you first start it up it sounds loud like the HEMI but then it settles down, also the gas mileage and the power have been reduced as well. best bet is to buy the part and a chiltons manual. $15 bucks and a case of beer later you should be good to go. Midas muffler shop can confirm the exhaust leak as can any mechanic worth a **** and they SHOULD NOT CHARGE YOU!!!

I have a 2000 dodge durango, I have a code P0320.

above me is right it's a faulty crankshaft position sensor. Hard to get this out so it may be cheap enough to have them change it at the shop. Only a $32 part
