Every thing Simeon can happen. At the coil, ignition module and points, if you have them( you will not have points and a module. One or the other)? You will have a 12 volt supply. Also check ground continuity(5 ohms or less). Every thing should power up to 12 volts with the key on and at the start/crank position. Capacitor?( older vehicles don't use capacitors) Not really sure what he's talking about, unless it is the condenser. Condensers don't affect the spark. If you don't have voltage or ground at any spot. You will need a schematic to trace wires. Because this could also be an ignition switch.

the old name for a capacitor is a condenser same thing anyway if this is short youll get no spark its purpose is to remove the RF content of the EHT system to avoid running noise on TV and RADIO RX ite obvious either the ingitions syetem has failed or not being supplied or there is a problem with the distribution and or generation of EHT

the condensor decouples the points ... RF content

Add a Commento if it goes short the + side of the coil thats switched by the points isnt supplied perhaps a fuse will blow

Yep, I know what they are for. But never had one kill the ignition. Just a buzzing in the radio...

Surprising they still use these today. But the inefficiency of the news ones are better. I have't replaced one yet. Even the old ones were good. I don't think I have replace even a dozen of them. I will keep it in mind though. I don't doubt that when it shorts to positive, it would kill the ignition. Just a thought though, Just like capacitors, the condenser swells up a bit on the end. If it is rounded, it is bad. Just like capacitors. I do electronics. Thanks for more info though, I appreciate every thing I get back...

The points have slipped or the electronic ignittion has failed or a fuse it blown

or the distributor isnt right in some way,,,, {the capacitor has gone short}
you could find the ignition coils is full of moisture because its housing has cracked

check the coil pack and its supply

Why car want start after replacing fuel pump

Check for spark - if your new fuel pump is kicking it also needs a nice hot spark to ignite the mixture. Without that you will go nowhere! Could be a bad ignition coil, the computer, open fuse, loose wire, etc.

No spark 94 chev cavalier

Check that the coil is functioning; the coil wire is intact; also check the battery cables and connections, especially the negative ground to the chassis.

Wil not turnover makes all the usual sounds when starting then will start clicking will not engage starter & turnover moter

Probably a rusted starter solenoid - get a hammer and give the solenoid (cylinder attached to the starter motor) a few good thumps. If that fixed it, get the unit replaced because it will happen again.

If this trick does not work, check the wiring for loose or rusted earth - another common fault

1999 chev blazer won't start new fuel pump

So, do you hear the pump buzz on, when key is on? If that's good, then check your ignition circuit: check for spark at a plug. Use insulated pliers, hold end of plug wire 1/4 inch form engine bolt or ground source. When cranked, you should see a bright blue spark. Yes? Try another plug wire, too. No? Try another plug wire. If you have NO spark, could be your coil, coil pack, crank position sensor, ignition module. I would recommend using a diagnostic flow-chart to go through the ignition circuit. That way, you are not replacing unecessary parts_Expensive! Of course, if you have spark at plugs, your ignition circuit is good! Then you have to look further, like your injector circuit. Good luck.

Will not start,

Check to see if the coil packs are getting spark, Than the sparkplug wires,,If it is getting spark than do a fuel pressure test to see if your fuel pump is working. A 99 is old enough to have a bad coil or fuel pump, How many miles?? Over a 100k. You might have to get a garage to do the test and check the fuel filter, fairly easy to change on a ford.

1.try checking the clearance in the spark plug if you have insufficient or more clearance you wont get spark check this.
2.check the wire coming to the spark plug.if power is not coming to spark plug there wil be discontinuity in the wire try replace it.

I have a 96 chev 1500 4x4 5.7l which wont start. I checked the coil wire for spark to ground but there is no spark. What do I do next?

hook a test light to battery voltage. and touch the white wire coming out of the coil, have someone spin it over if light flashes and no spark replace coil. If light dosen't flash replace ignition module.
