A ticking noise is usually associated with sticking lifters or valves. A knocking sound that gets louder under load (like hills) is probably worn main bearings on the crankshaft

My ford Explorer make a ticking sound at low speeds

Does it sound like it's coming from the engine? If so, you may have a valve sticking. The sound will pretty much go away as you pick up speed because the valves are working faster and harder. The best solution I can give will be to buy an engine cleaner that is added to your oil. drain about 1 quart of oil from the engine and add the cleaner to the oil. Start the engine and let it run for about 5 min. Drain all the oil and replace the oil filter and new oil to the engine. Sometimes this will have to be done 2 times but usually 1 will do. One other issue could be a spark knock, low grade gas causes this. If I run in to this problem I usually suggest buying prestone octane booster, which increases the grade of gas and cleans the fuel system at the same time.

My car started ticking should i replace the rod bearings?

Not neccessarily. Have it diagnosed first. The ticking could be many different things. Bearings are one, lifters another or could be not internal engine, may be external. You also need to find out why its doing what it doing otherwise you will waste money fixing something and end up doing it again..

Windstar's are notorious for having intake manifold air leaks, they even make a kit to repair it. I would send it to a repair shop as it is a time consuming repair.
