You can't. this is one thing the manufacturer will not let you do. Unless you buy thousands of dollar worth of scanners and still pay them to reset the ECM.

    Maybe? But why send them out to buy a $70 code reader to clear codes. When it won't, if the problem wasn't fixed? Auto stores aren't clearing codes any more. Buy the part and good luck. I can fix them with a code reader and volt /ohm meter. But a scanner tells me more( which I have). Not everyone one want to invest a lot of money to fix their cars.

Multiple check engine light codes set, 20 to be exact. engine ran rough for a few minutes then after engine was turned off & back on again engine ran smooth.


I don't know what vehicle this is, but it is not uncommon for the inter-module communications system (links between computer modules in the vehicle) to have an intermittent problem ("hiccup") due to a voltage transient, which can set all sorts of DTCs. If this is the case, restarting the vehicle will reset all modules but will hold history DTCs in the ECM. Reset the codes with a code scanner, and periodically monitor the ECM with it to see if you have an ongoing problem.

I have a 2010 Chevy impala LS instrument cluster and it has a 20 pin plug I'm trying to figure out which wire's on the back of the cluster are for the speed sensor, rpm, gas, and temp wires.


Boy your way off base . All the gauges are inputs from the ECM - engine computer . The VSS - vehicle speed sensor , ETC - engine coolant temp sensor , sending unit in the fuel tank , All this sensors input the engine computer . The PCM then sends this info on the GMLAN serial data bus ,communications network . The Instrument cluster has a microprocessor inside that translates this info an controls the gauges. You probably have an instrument cluster problem or a communication network problem . Your best bet is to take your vehicle to the dealer or some other qualified repair shop. Need to have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes.

Engine Coolant Temperature Gage
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the engine coolant temperature as determined by the engine control module (ECM). The IPC receives a serial data message from the ECM indicating the engine coolant temperature. The IPC receives the coolant temperature information via serial data message from the body control module (BCM). The engine coolant temperature gage defaults to 60?°C (140?°F) or below if:

Fuel Gage

Press the set/reset button for greater than 0.25 seconds, while the trip odometer is displayed, in order to reset the trip odometer. The IPC displays the vehicle mileage and trip mileage as determined by the engine control module (ECM). The IPC calculates the mileage based on the serial data vehicle speed information from the ECM. The odometer will display 'error' if an internal IPC memory failure is detected. The odometer displays either miles or kilometers and can be set through the customization menu in the driver information center (DIC).
PRNDL Display
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the selected gear position as determined by the engine control module (ECM). The IPC receives a serial data message from the ECM indicating the gear position. The PRNDL display blanks if:

While driving antitheft light comes on and all the gauges go flat,car keeps runnig,want to disable system,not sure what to look for


Before doing something drastic ,have it checked out for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes . It may not be the anti-theft system ,gauges going flat would be more like a communication problem between modules . PCM / BCM / instrument cluster etc.. That also could cause theft light coming on . If your not sure what to look for ,take it to a ASE certified professional . You may render your vehicle useless if you don't know what your doing .
Serial Data Power Mode Master
On vehicles that have several control modules connected by serial data circuits, one module is the power mode master (PMM). On this vehicle, the PMM is the body control module (BCM). The PMM receives 3 discrete ignition switch signals to differentiate which power mode will be sent over the Serial Data circuits. The 3-wire Ignition Switch table below illustrates the state of these inputs in correspondence to the ignition switch position:
Serial Data Messages The modules that depend exclusively on serial data messages for power modes. stay in the state dictated by the last valid PMM message until they can check for the engine run flag status on the serial data circuits. If the PMM fails, the modules monitor the serial data circuit for the engine run flag serial data. If the engine run flag serial data is True, indicating that the engine is running, the modules fail-safe to RUN. In this state, the modules and their subsystems can support all operator requirements. If the engine run flag serial data is False, indicating that the engine is not running, the modules fail-safe to OFF-AWAKE. In this state, the modules are constantly checking for a change status message on the serial data circuits and can respond to both local inputs and serial data inputs from other modules on the vehicle.

Odometer

Press the trip/reset switch for greater than 2 seconds, while the trip odometer is displayed, in order to reset the trip odometer. The odometer is calculated and stored electronically in the body control module (BCM). The BCM uses the vehicle speed information from the powertrain control module (PCM) to calculate the odometer. The odometer displays 'error' if an internal IPC memory failure is detected. The IPC stores a backup copy of the odometer value incase the IPC stops receiving a valid odometer value from the BCM.
Speedometer
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the vehicle speed based on the information from the ECM/PCM. The IPC receives the vehicle speed information from the BCM via the serial data circuit. The speedometer defaults to 0 kmh (0 mph) when the following occurs:

How do I get code p0601 out.have done everything unhooked battery,cleaned all ground wires.my car will not start.changed battery a cam scencor


code p 0601 refers to engine control module ( ECM) memory check sum error ===causes--- ECM
to correctly reset an ECM use a scan tool for the job
removing the battery can corrupt the CPU program of the ecm and while if can work in some instances there are many cases where other problems are created by that method
Try substituting a know good ECM if the reset fails

    OPERATION

    When the term Electronic Control Module (ECM) is used in this guide it will refer to the engine control computer regardless that it may be a Vehicle Control Module (VCM), Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Engine Control Module (ECM).
    The Electronic Control Module (ECM) is required to maintain the exhaust emissions at acceptable levels. The module is a small, solid state computer which receives signals from many sources and sensors; it uses these data to make judgments about operating conditions and then control output signals to the fuel and emission systems to match the current requirements.
    Engines coupled to electronically controlled transmissions employ a Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Vehicle Control Module (VCM) to oversee both engine and transmission operation. The integrated functions of engine and transmission control allow accurate gear selection and improved fuel economy.
    In the event of an ECM failure, the system will default to a pre-programmed set of values. These are compromise values which allow the engine to operate, although at a reduced efficiency. This is variously known as the default, limp-in or back-up mode. Driveability is almost always affected when the ECM enters this mode.

    The ECM is located in the passenger side footwell in the kick panel up to 1996. In 1996, the ECM is located in the engine compartment next to the battery.

    1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    2. Disengage the connectors from the ECM.
    3. Remove the spring retainer off and over the rail of the ECM on vehicles except 1996.
    4. Slide the ECM out of the bracket at an angle.
    5. Remove the ECM.

    To install:
    1. Install the ECM into the bracket.
    2. Install the spring retainer (except 1996) and plug in the electrical connectors.
    3. Connect the negative battery cable.

    Quad driver module computer circuit #2 fault ?


    I will start by pinout check current + to ECM and - ground there is many .
    A Quad driver work like a big fuse d?pends some are resettable and other not reset(ECM defect) if it is so then you have to check all solenoid not short to ground before replacing ECM it will burn without checking the solenoid

    1999 kia sportage stalled while in park will not refire codes are p1115 and p1624


    p1115 is a coolant temperature signal from ECM to TCM. p1624 is MIL request from ECM to TCM. Did the vehicle overheat? If so check the temperature sensor and the thermostat. Some vehicles will overheat and shut the engine off until the computer is reset. But with both codes involving the same computer modules the best bet might be to rescan the computer and reset it. Both modules might need to be changed.

    LMAO take it back to the dealer and tell him to reset the ECM since he was stupid enough to onhook the battery and not reset it!

    yes it could be , if ecm fuse is good ,some trucks have 2 ecm fuse same panel , crank sensor will also cause this problem
