Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

My 2010 GMC Acadia registered a p0451 code. Would it be the fuel tank pressure sensor or something simple like a faulty gas cap. I've already replaced the solenoid vent valve I believe it's called but code is still showing up. Thanks

The code is for a Pressure Sensor Range issue

You changed the vent solenoid valve-Why?

Now you ask about a Gas Cap-Why?

Best you leave testing the Evap System to the pros
or study how the system works- assuming you have
not purchased the required factory manuals, if you
plan on working on any vehicle yourself

Have to learn the system- before you can even component
test it ,to find a problem

These are the issues that all the forums are suggesting that's why I ask. I'm sure it's a pressure issue because when we remove the gas cap it has a substantial vacuum on it and then the vehicle immediately starts to run rough and die. I guess I'll have a mechanic tell me. I like doing all my repairs myself and was hoping someone on here could help me get to the root of the problem instead of just telling me to leave it to the pros. Thanks

Youbeing told to have the pros work on it because only they havethe diagrams of the vehicle systems with the fault & the proper tools to look at data & do the required testing We could teach a class but you still woud d those test tools to find a problem

If you do not learn a vehicles system, all it' components & how to test them you can not work on it yourself If you don't know someting you cn'find a problem or resolve it

The P0442 code is for a small leak in the pressurized emission system. It can be caused from something as simple as not tightening the fuel cap all of the way after fueling, or a leaky seal at the gas cap, or a leaky o-ring around a number of sensors and fittings in the emission system. If you are sure that you are tightening the fuel cap all of the way, and have already replaced the fuel cap and see no nicks on the seal on the fuel cap or fuel neck, you might need to have the vehicle hooked up to a smoke machine to try and find where the leak is coming from.

A loose gas cap or bad gas cap can cause this ,or filling gas tank while it running .or it could be a small leak in the evap system

Code P0451 Explanation

the fuel tank pressure sensor may be the problem. but first check that gas cap is tight and the seal is good on cap. auto parts store will tell you the location of the sensor,or call dealer to find out.

Don't do anything yet , there are several things that kick that code on. the easiest is to clear the code first. tighten the gas cap so it clicks at least three to for times. drive it and see if code returns.

Those hoses are located in the same area as the tank filler. There is a set of hoses that go from the gas cap connection to the tank. You have to lower the tank.
