Question about 1998 Lincoln Town Car

My 1998 Lincoln Town Car Signature Series alternator was over charging I took the battery cable off while the car was running and the dashboard starting to smoke and none of my lights are working headlights taillights interior lights nothingfor my brake lights the air suspension is not working can you give me advice to where to start to look to get those parts to work

You'll probably need a shop manual to get all of the wiring diagrams.
It sounds like you fried several main wires in the harness.
The excessive voltage may have cooked the gauge cluster and fed back thru the headlight switch. The warning light on the dash provides the circuit to "turn on" the alternator when the engine starts.

when i used too work on them some owner did away with the air system and went too a heavy duty shock instead might be worth looking into too save some cash or even an after market air shock

Is the battery light on? If so, the alternator is probably bad. The battery starts the car. The car runs off the alternator, and keeps the battery charged.

Have a 2010 Lincoln town car signature but the engine is from a 2003 battery light is on I've changed the alternator and battery light is still on and Car won't stay started what 2 do


check to see if charging voltage is achieved while running..must be close to 14.5..if under 12.6 you are not getting proper charge voltage and the master control module system will shut down if operating voltage drops below 10.5..

Battery light flashing on dashboard, and the headlights would deam and sometimes turn off


See if the battery is getting enough charging from the Alternator and also see if the battery is in a good shape still. Good luck

yes this is a problem of fuse.check the fuse and replace.

there may be a junction box connecting all these stuffs.check that junction box it might have damaged/burnt out so no power is comin to the required equipmqnt.

Is the battery light on? If so, the alternator is probably bad. The battery starts the car. The car runs off the alternator, and keeps the battery charged.

Bolts broke of alternator causing it to fall and that made the serpintine belt jump off, after that was fix the car would not stop so I got a new battery it ran for a day that night the car died again and...


sounds like your alternater is not fixed. Your car ran off of battery power till you drained it. Complete alternater repair and charge battery. You can check if your alternater works by starting car and disconnect positive cable if it stays running your alternate is fixed. Shut car off and replace positive cable.

98 Lincoln TC,Cold starts fine ,runs good until warm, then shuts off. No codes,Cranks ok, have spark, PATS ok. No fuel pressure, cant hear fuel pump prime,New Fuel relay. jumped fuel pump - works. I do not hear fuel pump prime up, do not have fuel gauge, but pressing on valve in fuel rail- no pressurized fuel. Fuel regulator seems ok, not leaking / vacuum line dry as a bone. If I let it set for 15 min , it will start up again, but for a few minutes then dies out. If I let it set overnight it starts up perfectly and runs until operating temp is reached then stalls/stumbles, and shuts down. Vacuum is good while cranking, even with no start, Checked Inertia switch in trunk, it is not tripped. I have seen Ford TSB summaries' that mention issues like this , but I am not able to see to description. A point to add, the MAF sensor was cleaned, then I decided to replace it and did not make a difference. I do not have any stored codes, and the PATS is working fine, typical 2 second flash from and once key is inserted a 3 second steady light, then disappears. I have seen the TSB mentioning C103 Connector, it looks fine, I swapped out fuel pump relay with ac relay, still no difference.mention of wires around battery, do not know where to start. in dash service engine light and odometer is normal, seen other posts the say they only have lines, but mine is ok. the start of all of this , I washed engine with regular garden hose, ( not using pressure washer).also in the mean time, rear window defroster stopped working as well, can not say for same reason, but a mention.My problem started after washing engine. this is one of four Panther platform vehicles I owned with exact 4.6l w code engine, which I rinced down before. The only sensor I can think of is Oil pressure , or a corroded wire
