What type of fluid do I need to use in a 2001 beetle 2.0L manual transmission

I just finished replacing the clutch in my 2001 beetle and I went to my local parts store and there computer said to use ATF fluid but I was also told to use gear oil so I figured I would ask before i use the wrong type

You look in your owners manual & only use what it says

If you have to-- stop at a dealer & have them look it up

Best be in the service bay & see the info or I wouldn't
trust them either

How do i know if i need transmission oil for my pajero 2001

Probably more than you want to know, but here is the workshop manual on the transmission. I had a friend with a Pajero, and it had some kind of jangling bell if he went over 68 mph. Drove us mad going to the airport on a 325 mile trip.

I have Civic 2001 with 160,000 miles on it. i have problem when i am driving on high way on 80/mph rpm stay on 2800 and after 5 minuts rpm goes to 3500 and i feel loud noise like engine is taking more...

If the car type is manual transmission:
    - Perform the clutch and pressure plate test.
    PROCEDURE:
    - Pull up the hand brake, shift the lever to 1st gear, rev up to 2000 rpm, release the clutch pedal at once.
    - If the engine does not stall, replace the clutch, pressure plate, clutch bearing, regrind the fly wheel and pressure plate precisely.
    - If the engine stalls, the clutch system is OK and do not need any clutch system repairing.
    - If the clutch system is OK, check vacuum leaks through intake manifold, vacuum hoses, PCV valve and throttle control cable adjustment, MAP sensor and Throttle Plate Position sensor adjustment (9.8 percent or 0 degrees at TP sensor fully closed position).

If the car type is automatic transmission:
    - Check the transmission control cable adjustment.
    - Check vacuum leaks through intake manifold, vacuum hoses, PCV valve and throttle control cable adjustment, MAP sensor and Throttle Plate Position sensor adjustment (9.8 percent or 0 degrees at TP sensor fully closed position).
    - Check the Automatic Transmission Fluid level in the transmission with the car on level floor, engine start, gear lever in P.
If the problem persists, contact a competent technician or service personnel.

Hello mate got problem got vw beetle new shape 2001 had to pull over last night because clutch went soft and wouldnt go into 2 gear but all other gears are fine ,have noticed when pulling off in first it...

it is likely your hydraulic slave cylinder is leaking and the system now has sucked air in the lines from an empty reservoir. First check the clutch reservoir. If empty, check the slave cylinder at the transmission for a leak. If leaking, replace slave and bleed the system. Let me know if you have questions.

2001 maxima manual transmission problems Soft clutch, can't get car into gear. Is this a possible fluid leak?

    Hi:
You need to check the fluid level in your clutch master cylinder. If it is low or empty, check for where the leak is. The clutch slave cylinder is mounted to the side of the transmission. You can try bleeding the system too, but most likely one of the two cylinders has failed internally, and needs replaced

My sister has 2001 vw beetle. She discribes a slipping problem with transmission. Is there a transmission oil dip stick ? What weight oil is recommended x-mission?

If this is an automatic transmission the modulator valve could be bad, if not, there is nothing to do but a rebuild. (OUCH!) If it is a manual transmission, a clutch, pressure plate and through-out bearing replacement and your done. The pressure plate could be resurfaced. Lot Less (ouch.)
