Question about 1999 Cadillac Seville STS
HOW DO I GET THE TOOL IN TO RELEASE THE FUEL FILTER. THE HOSE IS TOO SNUG TO THE FILTER? IT LOOKS LIKE I NEED ABOUT 1 INCH OF SPACE
I have run into this. Some one at some point has put the wrong filter on. You will have to get one of those plastic line removal tools and cut it. You need to cut off the semi circle pieces to shove into the line fitting. Take the pieces and show them into the fitting. You will need a couples of angled Picks to get them all the way in to release. You will also need three hands to make it a bit more easier. They su(k at best, but it can be done. Be sure to get the right filter. Or look and get one with a long nipple on each end..The nipple is about 2 inches long on both ends...

you have no fuel pressure, when u ran out of gas u overheated the fuel pump in the tank, now it is stuck and won't start running, very common problem after running out of gas, replace the fuel pump.

If you go to the auto parts store they should have a fuel line disconnect tool that has a 5/16ths end an a 3/8ths end. The tool is shaped like an X. Before you start you need to pull the fuel pump fuse under the front of the REAR passenger side seat while the car is running and let it stall. it will release the built up pressure. This is important unless you want gas to spray every where. Then take the tool and start with the end of the filter with two lines. Place the appropriate end of the tool over the smallest inlet, push the tool in then pull the line towards the filter and then push the line away and it should disconnect. Do the same with line above. Then you can use the two appropriate size wrenches to disconnect the outlet end. reconnecting the new filter is simple just make sure your quick connect lines click in all the way and you tighten the outlet line well, I think its like 22 or 25 ft/lbs.

SOURCE: How do you disconnect the
There is a special tool #J 37088-A for fuel connection removal. A well supplied parts store will have this tool for purchase. The tool press's the plastic clip on both sides at the same time to release the lines. You may be able to do this with two small flat head screw drivers, but it is not easy, the tool is the best way. Make sure you mark the fuel pump's location BEFORE taking it out, so you can install it back in the correct position. Relieve the fuel pressure also before removing the pump.
