I have run into this. Some one at some point has put the wrong filter on. You will have to get one of those plastic line removal tools and cut it. You need to cut off the semi circle pieces to shove into the line fitting. Take the pieces and show them into the fitting. You will need a couples of angled Picks to get them all the way in to release. You will also need three hands to make it a bit more easier. They su(k at best, but it can be done. Be sure to get the right filter. Or look and get one with a long nipple on each end..The nipple is about 2 inches long on both ends...

SOURCE: Changing fuel filter on 2004 Cadillac SRX

If you go to the auto parts store they should have a fuel line disconnect tool that has a 5/16ths end an a 3/8ths end. The tool is shaped like an X. Before you start you need to pull the fuel pump fuse under the front of the REAR passenger side seat while the car is running and let it stall. it will release the built up pressure. This is important unless you want gas to spray every where. Then take the tool and start with the end of the filter with two lines. Place the appropriate end of the tool over the smallest inlet, push the tool in then pull the line towards the filter and then push the line away and it should disconnect. Do the same with line above. Then you can use the two appropriate size wrenches to disconnect the outlet end. reconnecting the new filter is simple just make sure your quick connect lines click in all the way and you tighten the outlet line well, I think its like 22 or 25 ft/lbs.

SOURCE: How do you disconnect the

There is a special tool #J 37088-A for fuel connection removal. A well supplied parts store will have this tool for purchase. The tool press's the plastic clip on both sides at the same time to release the lines. You may be able to do this with two small flat head screw drivers, but it is not easy, the tool is the best way. Make sure you mark the fuel pump's location BEFORE taking it out, so you can install it back in the correct position. Relieve the fuel pressure also before removing the pump.

Change fuel filter

Remove the screw from the metal bracket that is holding the fuel filter. It is located right below the battery to the right. To get the quick connect fuel line fittings off. YOU WILL NEED A DISCONNECT TOOL. O'Reillys or Auto Zone should have the tool pack of (6) The small gray one fits the 2001 Sportage. Put the plastic tool under the fuel line fitting and squeeze together. The fuel line will pop off the old filter. To remove the rear fuel line, go under the vehicle and use the tool on the fuel line. There is a rubber hose with 2 quick connect fittings. One end attaches to the filter and the other end attaches to a metal fuel line under vehicle. Remove the fitting that attaches to the metal line since there is no room on the back of filter for the tool to fit. Once you get the whole assembly out of the car.... you can work on getting the fitting off the rear of the old filter. Be very careful not to damage the plastic quick connect fittings! KEEP YOUR FACE CLEAR OF THE FILTER A SMALL AMOUNT OF GAS WILL COME OUT!!!!!

The fuel filter has a normal screw type on one end the other looks like a "snap-in" app?

  • Hi, I can help.

  • The "snap in" side of the fuel line is removed with a GM fuel line gas tool. This can be purchased at any parts store for $5usd or so. You put the fuel line tool around the line with the round end facing towards the fuel filter and press firmly towards the fuel filter and this release the fuel line from the fuel filter.

  • When in stalling the new fuel filter make sure to have the point of the arrow on the fuel filter facing away from the pump as this indicates the direction the fuel flows. Where you use the fuel line tool to remove that line will just snap into place during install.

1993 Pontiac Transport 3.1 Motor, I have scan of computor and found no active codes. the motor when cold will run just great. Driver 40 miles shut off go in to store come out. will start and die, then...

Could be fuel ? I would start by changing fuel filter, it has the quick-connect fittings (takes a special tool too remove the lines). If that did'nt work, then i would do a complete tune up. Plugs, cap, rotor and plug wires. Ps. make sure air filter is not clogged. And check for any vacuum leaks??
Do all this and i think you will be good for a long time...

How do i change the fuel filter and where is it located

It is on the frame rail under the car. Disconnect the fuel lines, replace with the new filter. Rember to have a rubber plug to fit inside the fuel lines to stop the flow of fuel while you are working, and work of to the side Not under the filter or you will get soaked with gasoline. As always don't do this kind of work in an enclosed space or near open flame or electric motors.
