I'm fairly sure a 1993 would use a speed sensor instead of a cable.
Either way, they plug into the side of the transmission.

Just had my 1988 Chevy truck transmission rebuilt. Now my oil pressure gage and speedometer gage don't work, nor the mileage doesn't move. What did they not hook back up?


check the speedometer cable is connected at the transmission and the cable is not broken. check the oil sender unit is connected, it can be found near the oil filter.

Speedometer its not working


check to make sure the speedometer cable is still hooked into the transmission, if it is try taking it out and turning the cable by hand have someone watch the speedometer on the dash to see if it moves, if it doesnt move then the cable needs to be replaced

NO, IT'S NOT THE TRANSMISSION! SOUNDS LIKE A SPEEDOMETER PROBLEM! THAT WOULD BE ONE OF THREE THINGS! EITHER THE SPEEDOMETER, THE CABLE, OR THE SPEED SENSOR! THE SPEED SENSOR WILL USUALLY GIVE YOU A P0500 CODE ON AN OBD-II CODE READER! THE SPEED SENSOR IS ELECTRONIC SPEED CONTROL LOCATED ON THE TRANSMISSION! SOME HAVE A SPEEDOMETER CABLE HOOKED TO THEM, AND SOME JUST HAVE A 2 WIRE PLUG THAT HOOKS TO IT!

disconnect the cable at the transmission and at the speedometer tape the new cable to the old one at the transmission and pull the new one through the firewall and re hook

My temperature gauge and my fuel gauge arent working and the fuse is is good .... also how hard is it to replace the speedometer cable ?


On replacing the speedometer cable, on a scale of 1 to 10, probably 3 or 4.
Hooking to the transmission, " baby play ", connecting the other end to the speedometer, well that represents the 4.

Replacing transmission fluid in standard


The manual transmission in the Ford Escort uses transmission fluid, it is checked and filled in the same hole. That hole is where the speedometer cable is hooked up to the transmission. Remove the speedometer cable, set aside, then remove the locking bolt that holds the speedometer drive unit in place. Pull up on the drive unit and it will come out, look on the side of the drive unit and you will see the level indicator line for full and add. Fill as needed and reinstall the drive unit and cable. Speedometer is erratic


It sounds like the core of your speedometer cable is rubbing the outer housing. The speedometer cable runs from the inst panel, thru the firewall, and onto the side of the transmission that faces the driver. This is not a hard job to do, but, when replacing the cable, take care to not break the ears off of the part that hooks on to the back of the speedometer.

working at the transmission, pull the boot up the cable and extract the spring clip which retains the cable , on no accuont remove the bolt or lockplate or pinion might drop into the transmission .

Speedometer


Like with many newer cars, there is a speed sensor and wire for the speedometer, not a cable. I would say based on the information provided that when they replaced the transmission everything was not hooked back up properly. For intermitent electrical problems like your guage cluster/speedometer sometimes going blank, a short or bad connection is almost a certainty. Which could explain the overheating as well, the fan is electric and may not be working all the time. To switch the transmission, they probably lowered the engine and transmission out of it, put the engine on the new transmission and then reinstalled the assembly. In the process they may have missed some wire hook ups, or pinched a set of wires in the loom. There are a lot of wires running through the engie compartment and it can be easy to overlook or miss things.
