If the fluid levels are correct, the unit at normal temp, and not worn out- then there may be a short delay in some cars because of electrical relays take a second to react/engage. Or the trans fluid and/or filter may need to be changed.

When you put the car in gear to drive the letter M is beside the letter D for driving??

It stands for "Manual". It allows you to shift gears manually, without a clutch, for those performance oriented drivers. You can also use it to stay in low gear for climbing steep hills or driving in snow. Once you shift into "M" by moving the stick to the left of the "D" position, you should see a number "1" just above the "M", letting you know you're in first gear. Pushing the stick forward or backward shifts gears.

Why won't My 2000 Lexus es300 go into reverse or neutral?

Probably the stick that control your transmission has moved. It's not sync. I recommend that you take it to a specialist.

What is a variable cam wheel-exhaust side

Is this the definition of a fault you received and the check engine light is on? YOUR ENGINE HAS A SYSTEM THAT ALLOWS THE ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROL COMPUTER (CALLED THE PCM) TO CHANGE THE VALVE TIMING BY MOVING THE CAMSHAFT DRIVE WHEEL PULLEY FORWARDS OR BACKWARDS TO ADVANCE OR ****** THE CAMSHAFT POSTION WHICH IN TURN CHANGES THE TIME IN RELATION TO THE PISTON POSITION IN THE CYLINDER THAT THE VAVLES OPEN AND CLOSE, THIS IS DONE FOR BETTER POWER AND INCREASDED FUEL ECOMONY. THESE WHEELS STICK DUE IN MOST CASES TO GUMMED UP PARTS FROM DIRTY OIL, BUT NOT ALWAYS. THE ACTUATORS ARE MOVED USING COMPUTER CONTROLLED ACTUATORS THAT ALLOW OIL PRESSURE TO MOVE THE HYDRAULICLLY CONTROLLED CAM SPROCKET WHEEL.

1996 Ford Taurus GL Sedan Car will not move while running in drive, 2, 1, or reverse. Transmission fluid is at correct level and looks new. No grit or bubbles on stick, fluid is normal red color....

Does the fluid read overfull on the stick now? You might have stripped the splines in the converter for the pump shaft. This is common problem on this model. Also the Forward clutch piston are known for cracking.

After driving for less than a kilometer, i pulled over to drop off my niece; pulled up the hand brake and set the gear to P (parked) mode. after my niece alighted, i changed my mind about parking the car...

Perhaps the shift linkage has slipped and the car is actually in neutral. Try shifting to a lower gear position.

If the car doesn't move in any gear position, you may have a problem with the shift linkage or transmission.

Transmition stuck in drive

sounds like shifter cable busted... pop the hood and look at drivers side, have another person move the shifter so you can locate the cable... then find the arm coming off the transmission move it all the way one direction it will be either park or low range and that should get you moving again...
