Question about 1992 Audi 80

My 1992 audi will ot start after i drive it or only a few miles but runs like a champ but will start if I drive it for a distance. do you know why

Try the mapp sensor and make sure ur fuel pump is coming on, when it doesnt want to start. listen for it after u put key into run position, not start, run position. the position it is in when it running after starting it,

You have a transmission control unit problem unfortunately and I'll warn you - it's not cheap. Your description describes it to a "T". It will reset itself to "LIMP" mode (short distance drivability) and will only reset so many times. You need to take to Ford and have trans control unit replaced. (PS bring your wallet - sorry)

Drive 5 miles and starts up fine, drive 30 miles and wont restart


Sounds like a fuel pump overheating. Drive until it wont start then check the fuel pressure. If no gauge when it wont start try some starting fluid. You should also check your fuel pump relay.

I would check to see if the catalyic converter is clogged. Drop the tail pipe at the manifold. Start and drive it for a block you will be able to tell real quick. It should run smooth and have good power. It will just be noisy. Or you could have coil problems.
