Question about 2006 Pontiac Torrent

How can I be sure if my PCM is bad???

Couple weeks ago check engine light came on. Already had issues with ABS light and Traction Control light being on and removed ABS fuses to prevent false engagement of ABS system (I have seen this to be a common problem reported on ABS system). The plan was to replace the front hub assemblies with new ones that had new bearings and ABS sensors. After changing the first hub assembly, disconnected battery negative cable and reconnected after 30 minutes, started the vehicle and noticed no more Check Engine Light but ABS light still on. Decided to replace ABS fuses and disconnect battery NEG cable again for 30 minutes and try again. This time the vehicle would not start at all!! It would crank over fine, but no start. Seemed to have plenty of fuel pressure so checked spark, no spark!! Checked spark on 2 cylinders that use opposite coils in the coil back and neither has spark. Checked RPM while cranking with scanner to verify Crank Position Sensor and scanner showed approx 150 RPM while cranking. Scanned the computer for DTCs and scanner reported 30 DTCs, including open circuits on all 6 cylinder injectors, Got the following codes: Is this a strong indication of PCM failure??? P0030 ENG The ENG codes are reported as CONFIRMED P0036 ENG P0201 ENG P0202 ENG P0203 ENG P0204 ENG P0205 ENG P0206 ENG P0443 ENG P0449 ENG P0481 ENG P0030 MOD $00 The MOD $00 codes are reported as PENDING P0036 MOD $00 P0201 MOD $00 P0202 MOD $00 P0203 MOD $00 P0204 MOD $00 P0205 MOD $00 P0206 MOD $00 P0443 MOD $00 P0449 MOD $00 P0481 MOD $00

Ken......I tried as you suggested and the same codes came back. It is as if the codes come back as soon as the key is turned on and before it is even turned to the start position.

I would try disconnecting battery again. Disconnect both cables and touch them together for a few seconds. This will reset all modules. Wierd that you had so many codes after just disconnecting battery. Sometimes very hard to tell if ecm is bad.

Thanks,,,,,I'll try that. Yeah....even stranger is the fact that after the first time I disconnected the battery and reconnected the vehicle started. It was only after I put the ABS fuses back in that it would not start. I have reset everything with my scanner including the ABS and it immediately comes back and says that 12 codes still remain. I will try your suggestion though. Thanks again!

PS.....the vehicle was turned off when I replaced the fuses.

Ken.....I did as you suggested and the same codes came up. It seems as they come up as soon as the key is turned to on and before the key is turned to start position.

DTC C1275
PCM Requested ETS to Be Disabled

The PCM monitors various parameters and will not allow traction control operation if any parameter falls outside a specified range.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The PCM diagnoses a condition preventing the engine control portion of the traction control function and sends a serial data message to the EBCM indicating that torque reduction is not allowed. The PCM will typically set a DTC and the EBCM will set this DTC.
Diagnostic Aids
This DTC is for information only. As an aid to the technician, this DTC indicates that there are no problems in the ABS/TCS system.

Does the scan tool communicate with all control modules?

Do you have a up scale scan tool ? One that will communicate with the above modules ? If not your best bet would be to take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop .

I loose power when traction control light comes on in my 2002 mustange gt

With some makes and models this is normal. The PCM will reduce engine power when the traction control senses wheel slip as a safety precaution until traction is restored

The abs/vsc/trac and check engine lights stay on. could this be a problem associated with emission control?

Its possible.

Whenever the check engine light comes on the VSC and Traction control will disable because they need the engine at 100% in order to function correctly. Since the ABS light is on I would have to wonder if it isn't an abs problem. Since the VSC and Traction control use the ABS sensors/system to function.

Or there is a problem with both the engine and the ABS.

The only way to know for sure is to have the PCM scanned and the ABS module to see what is goind on.

I had a transmission flush done 2 weeks ago. 1 week later my \low traction light came on whenever I accelerated from a stop. Now 1 more week later my ABS and TSC lights are on. There is a little shudder as...

First, Iam not a fan of flushing a trans. Owned a trans shop years ago.
You may have caused some solenoid issues, with the clutch material and cooler sediment.
Work on the ABS,TSC issues. Wheel Speed Sensors may be going and just a coincidence, a couple weeks later.
Make sure the fluid is correct for your vehicle and at the correct level.
I pray you didn't go to one of the Quick Lube Franchises.

There's a little light that says "low trac" that goes on when i turn on my 1998 chevy cavalier.... what does it mean??

means the traction control module is bad. That light is suppose to come on when you lose traction to let you know the traction control is kicking in.

Warning light on are trac off, anti-lock, brakes, service engine

You need to have the abs system scanned for codes. You likely have a bad wheel speed sensor on one of wheels.

My low trac light comes on in my car. What does that mean? Its a 1999 chevy calvalier and also it gets hot when the car sits at a light.

If your ABS light is on as well, have a shop scan it (it requires a special scanner). If it's just your Trac light without ABS, it is most likely a sensor under the hood at fault. If you are getting a check engine light as well, get the codes read!
This happened to me without an ABS light and it was the upstream O2 sensor. The reason it throws the Trac light is because if any components that the traction control uses (ignition, fuel) are affected by a bad sensor, the PCM shuts down traction.
In fact, when I replaced the O2 sensor, a handful of other little issues resolved as well.
If you do have an ABS light on, it could very well be a wheel speed sensor.

2001 olds ABS and traction control sensor issue

An ABS sensor DOES affect the traction control system. Traction control uses these sensors to determine if a wheel is losing traction. A bad sensor will cause both the ABS and TRACTION lights to come on.
The CHECK ENGINE light however is going to be a seperate problem.
