No dodge wouldn't do that > I was wrong about sending unit or gauge , don't know how I missed this happening when door is open .I'd look for something these have in common , like a grounding point. Go tohttp://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html free wiring diagrams . Look under the dash ,driver side ,see if you see any wires ******* to the body metal that are lose .On the wiring diagram I see ground G200 for the instrument cluster . Any black wires bolted ,******* to the body sheet metal . This kind of thing happens all the time . Friday afternoon time to go home an the assembly line person didn't tighten it all the way .

Does somebody know what the fix was? I have the exact issue. Door opens temp goes to half!!? Engine cold and not even turned on.

Changed thermostat and temp sending unit. still having issue. Did a gauge sweep with the odometer button(to test all lights and needles) they all checked out except for the temp needle..it stayed locked at midpoint. Turned the key off and a minute later dropped right down again. Opened door...right back to mid point. Sigh*

The fix is you need to find it , there are no magical fixes .This good old fashion automotive electrical detective work ,if you can't deal with it take your vehicle to an automotive repair shop

SOURCE: 98 dodge dakota slt 318. no heat, low operating temp

First thing first, turn off the engine wait for 15 - 20 mints, open the radiator cap and fill it up to the top then start the engine and see if it needs more water adn add as needed, then wait till you ca see the water circulating in the radiator now instead of corculating if it starts boiling out shut the engine replace the thermostat and do the whole thing again.

unless there is water in the engine the gauge will not be able to show the actual temp of the engine, so always malke sure you have water / antifreeze

SOURCE: location of spark plugs in 2005 dodge dakota

To change the sparks on a 2005 4.7L Dodge Dakota you will need the following:

  • Spark plug socket
  • Ratchet
  • Torque wrench
  • Extension
  • Flat-tip screwdriver
  • Make sure the truck is cold!!!

Note you will have to remove the air intake located at the top of the engine, and will have to move some of the coolant lines out of the way.

At the top of the engine there are 4 sparks on each side. The coils are held in place with a 10mm bolt. Undo the 10mm bolt and unclip the coil. Next pull out the coil.

Insert the socket, with extension into the spark plug hole.

Remove spark plug.

Check the gap on new spark plug, it should match stock.

tighten to approximately 25ft.lbs. (check spark-plug packaging for exact torque requirements).

repeat this process with all other sparks.

be sure that no dirt gets into the spark plug holes.

Look for a loose connection to the temperature sender unit on the motor.
If all connections OK, you may need a new temp sender unit.

You will have to remove the glove box door and then the inside liner. It will be behind it.

After using slim jim car door will not open from outside or inside

You probably knocked the door linkage off during the slim jum operation, You will need to remove the inner door panel and re-connect the door handle linkage. Hopefully you did not break the plastic clip.

Guages not working,

If all voltages checked ok,then most probably its faulty instrument cluster board on which gauges are connected.Yes if cluster circuit board looks ok,then also it can be faulty.Somewhere there is minute short or burn on board then such prolem arises.
Also check the fuse box.One under hood and other under dash.Inspect each and every fuse and see if all are fine or not.

Dakota v6 has new heater core, thermostate, can hear blend door opening, and upper hose and both core hoses are hot but still no heat. dummy temp gauge looks like it might be reaching 160 range instead of...

160 degrees should be hot enough to get some heat.
You could check the engine temp with a scanner to confirm.
I would double check the blend doors, and the temp of the coolant in and out of the heater core. I use an inferred temp gun.

it sounds like the gauge float assembly in the top of the tank has gone bad. But before you change it I would look at all of your electrical connections and make sure that they all are properly grounded for that circuit.

Driver side power window

Remove the door panel on that door.
And carefully pull back the weather-shield (either plastic or heavy gauge paper, try not to damage it in the process).

While looking inside the door (a flashlight is advised) operate the window up and down.

This sounds like there is damage in the roller tracks of the window.
Once you locate the damaged area, how to do the repair should be apparent
