95% of the the time it is the sender unit in the tank that is bad. 4.9% is the wiring from the sender to the gauge. .1% is the gauge..

My gas gauge wont work right.up an down but trys to work for a minute

The most common point of failure in a gas gauge is the fuel level sender in the tank, When it wears out, the needle on the gage does not work correctly and can become irregular in response.

Gas gauge wont work

Replace the sender unit in the gas tank. Some units , you can get at a parts store. Others, look online.

Wont start

Sounds like a wiring problem at the gas tank.
I would check for voltage and ground for the fuel pump and the sending unit for the gauge.

Driving along it just died. added gas but when it died it did not sputter or cough. wont start. gauges seem to work except the gas gauge dont come up when key is on. fuel pump?

Yes it is most likely the fuel pump. the gauge is integrated with the pump, the sending unit is built into the pump assembly located in the fuel tank.

I have a 2000 3.8 impala that wont take gas and the gas gauge stays full.

Wont take gas and the gas gauge stays full? This question really doesn't make sense. But if you cant put anymore gas in the car and the gauge says full then you have a full tank of gas. If the gauge always says full even when the gas tank is not full then the sender unit is failing or the gauge itself.

Gas gauge wont work

Well I'll give you a few things to ckeck out and let's see if we can change that.
Check the fuse to the gas gauge
Check the connections
Then the thing that make a gas gauge work is a flat strip that is wrapped with wire a whole bunch of times. The bar that rubs up and down on that strip wears it out from going back and forth over the wire. If that is the cause then you willl be taking a trip to the parts store and getting a new one and installing it.
Good luck

Gauges and speedometer wont work fuses are good gas gauge tempeture gauge speedometer just stopedworking

There is most likely a bad connection at the cluster, remove the dash cluster, and check the connection to it,you may have to tighten the connectors up so they will fit tighter.
