This is an indication of oil or grease on the clutch plate, or worn plate , over heated flywheel that has high spots and cracks and the same on the pressure plate. Basically the fix is the replace the clutch assembly, have the flywheel machined . While the gear box is out replace the rear main seal and the clutch shaft input seal ( the seal is behind the metal tube that the throw out bearing is on so it is a simple seal to replace.)

What is causing a couple of second judder when accelerating away after changing from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th gear ?

it may be from failing engine mounts allowing the engine to misalign the drive shaft under acceleration and allowing problems in the cv joints or "U" joint

My Renault megane 2003 began juddering on the motorway doing around 70mph then the engine management light kept flicking on and off. I pulled over stop the engine turned all electrics off and restarted it,...

Check the timing belt. It should have been changed at 60,000 miles. Sounds like you have lost some teeth on the synchronous belt resulting in lost timing. Damage to valves can occur. look under plastic cover on the end of the head for the belt

My 57 gof fsi judders when stood still but drives ok. I had the timimg chain done last year and the juddering happened after the chain was done could this be anything to do with it

Absolutely. Your engine should go on a better diagnostic machine than a hand-held scanner. You need a machine that will tell if the timing was correct with the new part. You were using the car with a worn timing chain and any adjustments made in the past could need updating.

Updating can be downloading new operating instructions for the engine management systems. You could have a few physical adjustments in the Throttle Control sensor, and your Crankshaft sensor and Camshaft sensor may both be adjustable. Your idle speed could be too low if no adjustments were made with the new parts.

You should have the fuel pressure checked and if the fuel filter has not been changed recently, get that done too. If you trust the place that did the work, go back to them. If not, find someplace who can double-check their work and go from there.

Mercedes 1.7 cdi judders at 50 mph it has a auto gear box

Most likely nothing mechanically wrong in the gearbox but check the transmission fluid level and top up if low. Also if low, check for site of leak to remedy it. Judder says to me 'imbalance' or an under damped spring. Does the judder emanate from one end (transmission) or one side (wheel) predominantly. Has the judder manifested itself just on its own or is it after having had some work done to the car.
Check wheels for balance - could be a balance weight has been lost, at the same time check the action of the shock absorbers. Check the rear engine/gearbox mount for integrity; its towards the rear of the gearbox and sits on a transmission tunnel cross-member . Now check the front prop to gearbox doughnut coupling, then the central bearing and finally the rear prop to differential doughnut coupling; all should be sound. Signs of splitting of the rubber around the bolt mounts in the doughnuts or a lot of lateral play in the central bearing are indicators for renewal.

Ihave a ford fiesta 1.3 encore petrol.the car judder on the first gear, other gears are ok.can anybody help?thanks

hi from the uk from the symptoms you describe ? there is a judder as you take up drive in 1st gear ? may i suggest that this fault is not uncommon on this model and the fault is the engine mounting that is the one at the front of engine directly behind the radiator as you stand at front of car this mounting has a metallastic rubber which has probably parted from the metal fixing plate this results in the engine tilts back and lifts as you take up drive in 1st gear from standstill ? but once moving all other gearchanges seem ok ?? you can check mounting by slightly raising the engine at rear with a jack you will see mounting part from rubber this mounting is easy diy and the mount costs £15 approx here in uk and takes 1/2 hour to replace have done many of these in past if you req instruction on best/easiest way to do job? by all means get in touch ? hope this helps/inspires you ? best wishes from n/west uk

Renault megane engine light flashing and car is juddering.

I have 2 meganes im working on at the moment both have the same problem. the electrical falt light is on coz the pipe has snapped (or come off) under the bonnet on the passangers side close to the window (theres a black box about 2 inch wide the pipe connects underneath). if I reconect the pipe and grab the engien with both hands it wobbles and the pipe pulls off. I suspect this is coz one (or all) the engien mountings are shagged. and this will be the cause of the juddering when driveing in first and second gears. solutions iv have come across for juddering involve changeing the coil pack but thats nothing to do with the problem my 2 cars have as one of them has new coils. they are 1.6 petrol, p reg and s reg

hiya if you are sure that the n/s/f wheel bearing/cv joint/ and suspension joint/s are sound ? may i suggest that you check the engine mountingson the n/s front +rear ? from your symptoms it sounds very much like as you accelerate the engine is tilting due to the metallastic mounting has perished thus the juddering is engine moving along with driveshaft especially cornering ? you will have to check physically and visually the mountings or pop into local quick fit and ask to check for normally no charge? for inspecting this is common fault easilly missed on a lot of cars with f/w/drive hope this helps ?
