Sounds like the distributor rotor isn't turning. Remove the distributor cap but leave the plug wires on it, and set it aside. Remove and inspect the rotor. Put it back on if it looks undamaged. If you can view the rotor while cranking the engine over (get an assistant or rig up a mirror if that isn't possible). If the rotor doesn't turn while cranking, there are several possibilities:
The timing belt (if equipped) is shot
You have a broken timing chain (if equipped)
The timing gears have very worn teeth.
The distributor drive gear is worn out.

3.0 V6 Ford engines are bad for wear on the distributor drive gear as well as the "adapter" that couples the dist. drive gear to the camshaft. On this and many other engines if there is no rotor spinning then the fuel pump is cut off from a lack of ignition triggering. Ford doesn't provide a means to lubricate the adapter and distributor gear so they wear out. A poor design in my opinion. They recommend a new Cam, Cam bearings, distributor adapter, and distributor.
You didn't mention what vehicle this is for, or what engine type it has.

I owned a 75 Chevy wagon with HEI ignition and liked to never found the problem. It seems under the center contact on the distributor rotor would get a hole burnt in it, and then all sparks go straight to ground.

SOURCE: 1988 Chevrolet K3500, Have replaced distributor,

Pick up a spark tester (it'll cost under 15$) . After installing the tester on one of the 2 rear right or left bank spark plugs, have someone turn the engine over and check for spark. If you have no spark, you could have either a broken timing chain or a broken cam-shaft. The only other minor item you didn't mention with regard to the ignition system was to make sure you have a good hot power source to your distributor. If these things don't work, it might be time to check that the carburetor or throttle body fuel injection (as applicable) is providing fuel.

My courier turns over but won't fire I got new plugs but still won't fire I only drove it yesterday and it was running fine what do you think ?

Check that fuel is being delivered via the fuel pump. If no fuel check fuel pump relay. If fuel is being delivered, depending on how old your vehicle is, check low tension lead near the distributor. It is a small wire on the outside of the distributor. Check for a breakage.

Good luck. S

Will the fuel pump prevent a 1999 chevy tracker from firing

Yes... the 'firing' is the fuel combusting in the chamber being ignited by the spark plugs.... No fuel? no fire.

Low power and missfire, have replaced bad distributor and rotor. 2000 Oldsmobile Bravada AWD. Where are the fuel pump and filter located?

I have replaced Distributor cap, rotor, wires, and spark plugs in my 2000 Oldsmobile Bravada AWD smart track. To replace one spark plug I had to collapse the steering column, but everything went O.K. Did you marked the wires?. Did you reconnect them in the firing order?
The fuel pump is located In the fuel tank. Remove the fuel tank and take the fuel pump out from the top. This is part cost $300 and need some skills to be replaced.
The fuel filter it is directly in front of the fuel tank. Another one is incorporated with the fuel pump.

Won't start. turning, but won't fire.

If you think its fuel, spray some starter fluid inthe throttle body. If it fires up, you have a fuel problem, otherwise, check your spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor. Also, check your fuses.

89 f150 wont fire

i suspect a fuel pump malfunction. i would check there first. make sure the fuel **** fuse is good and well. check the lines for blockages. after you run the fuel pump/fuse/line test, go to the distributor/coil and test the spark value. i would also check wires as well. your problem should be in one of these specific areas.
